So, I was outside yesterday (we live close to St. Pete's - I think that's the name of the Catholic church downtown) and I noticed the bells haven't been ringing like they normally have. It dawned on me, they haven't been ringing on their 15 minute interval for quite some time. Any reason why? God on summer vacation?
I did a Google search of "St. Petronille" and the first 10 pages were exclusively about the G.E. church, a bed and breakfast in Quebec or some Canadian champagne. Hell if I'm going to page 11. Just isn't happening.

We've been to excavations in the Catacomb of Domitilla (outside of Rome) where her tomb and fresco are located.
I'd let this one go Clam.

Yeah, we noticed that right away yesterday. We were returning from a trip to Oklahoma, pulled into the driveway, opened the door to the car, and the bells started chiming. We looked at eachother with a puzzled stares. Sounds "electronic" now, and a couple of notes are "off" by a good bit. Maybe they're tuning them this week. I've also noticed the clocks aren't in sync either, with about a 5 minute difference.
For the record; Do we have to hear them every 15 minutes for 12 hours a figgin' day? Can't they do it every hour, or half hour?
It really sounds tinny and yes, some notes are out of tune (almost half a tone, maybe more). If those are real bells someone went to great lengths to make them sound bad. I always thought the sound was a recording, so tuning individual sounds would be out of the question without a new recording. It does sound like the chime sounds are on fast forward, though. I liked the old way - the chimes were nicely paced, not in a hurry to get done and answer the phone/email/Facebook/......
So the first question is - are the chimes real or are they Memorex? (Showing my age here)
The 1/4 hour chimes are nice, it helps when in the garden and not wearing a watch. After 30+ years living close by St. Pets, I still hear and enjoy them during the day, but at night - no.
