We evacuated some of the adjacent rooms, tried to establish contact inside and, ultimately, the woman ended up coming to the door," Glen Ellyn Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer said. "We were able to get her out of the room shortly and take the male into custody."

"None of the other guests at the hotel were injured, and no shots were fired," Holmer said. "We're glad that we could take him into custody without anybody getting hurt."

Kudos to our police!

Imagine the look of surprise when an out of town guest with a reservation shows up thinking it's a hotel, as advertised, and then finding out it's actually the flophouse that it is.

As a regular business traveler, I always check Trip Advisor before booking a hotel. Check out the reviews for the Americas Best Value Inn - Glen Ellyn

Unbelievable- it's even worse than I've imagined! How in God's name does the place rate 3 stars, though?

Did you see the pictures - they don't match the comments. Do you think those picture are made up?

How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year,
Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

What kind of normal person would drive up to that place and think it was worthy of a stay? We are talking suburban hotels here...no shortage of rooms in the western suburbs. There are rooms all over the place. Empty rooms for probably $10-20 a night more. You'd be safer sleeping in Panfish Park. Probably fewer bugs, too.

The kid in the parking lot should be your first clue.

My parents came up the week after the flood that left sewer in our basement. Not wanting to inconvenience us since our spare bedroom was in the basement, unbeknownst to me, they booked a night at this seedy hotel. Eek I tried to convince them it would be safer in my sewer soaked basement, but they said they had already put the reservation on their credit card. I told them to come back to our house at any hour if they felt threatened.

The next morning they came back to our house for breakfast and said although the lobby was barebones, the rooms were pretty nice and appeared to have been redone recently.

I sent them this news story so they don't attempt to stay there again.
