Fined for dropping his butt

Your town got a revenue shortfall or just need to generate cash for that new revitalization? It's simple, just have your police enforce the littering laws and watch the cash roll in! Just have your officers sit by any busy intersection and begin ticketing those who throw their butts out the window, it's that easy. Money will come flying in faster than you can say "Marlboro Man" and your intersections will look better within a few weeks. And don't forget your downtown area, there are plenty of folks who think the Earth is their own personal ash tray/garbage can and have no problem throwing their refuse in your business district. In addition to fines, you can also sentence repeat offenders to community service on the weekends, image the joy you'll have watching them pick-up their own garbage. Macing & tasering are optional, but not recommended.

I know I have told this story before. My youngest son's Godfather used to have an office in the U.S. Bank building on the corner of Main and Crescent (that branch will soon be closed, BTW). One day he was walking past a well-known jewelry store in that general vicinity and one of the employees was out front puffing on a fag. As he walked by the store, the employee flicked his butt...still lit...on the sidewalk. My good friend Scott was the single most anal retentive person I have ever met...every clean, in its place, etc. He picked up the butt, opened the door of the jewelry store, and flicked it onto their carpeting...and yelled at the guy. This is my kind of vigilantism. Sadly, he has packed up and moved to Hilton Head. It is unfortunate that he ended up hating this town more than life itself. GE could use more people like him, and less of the smoker from the well-known jewelry store.

So that US Bank is closing, and WaMu is closing.... so much for bank paradigm that everyone talks about. We even scared them away.

In the GE News weekly paper there is a notice that Suburban Bank is filing to establish a branch at 674 Roosevelt Rd, GE. I don't know what is there now, but I can only find that MidAmerican Bank used to be there. However, since National City bought them, they must have shut down that branch since they have another one at 524 Roosevelt.
