Just in case the demolition crew working next door decides to put
in overtime and begins knocking down the Mews, I also have a picture titled "The Sun sets on The Mews" (taken the same day) ready for the next chapter of its history.

Not that anyone else seems interested in this, but I figured I'd post an 8/08 update of home listings in GE.

Total listings: 611 (7/08-565, 6/08-535, 5/08-486, 4/08-458, 2/08-413)

$1 mill+: 51 (7/08-57, 6/08-58, 5/08-57, 4/08-57, 2/08-47)

$500-999K: 157 (7/08-174, 6/08-163, 5/08-152, 4/08-143, 2/08-122)

Unfortunately, it seems the red-hot Mews market has cooled:

Mews for sale: 22 (7/08-22, 6/08-23, 5/08-23, 4/08-23, 2/08-23)

Total listings are up - way up, tho it seems they are down significantly at the top end. Overall nearly 50% more homes on the market now than 6 months ago.

Yeah, just look at my street - lots of houses for sale!

Big new houses in our neighborhood, still sitting unsold for months; one foreclosure that I know of (an older home). On the other hand, a smallish ranch just sold. It was sitting there for about 3-4 months (older lady had to move to a nursing home), but a very young family just bought. I will say this; I think the market is good for bringing in younger families to Glen Ellyn that don't have the benefit of a trust fund. To me, this is a good thing.

wow... saw that huge brick house on Park (and Hill I think) was for sale. The one with asian statues in the yard.

Good luck with that!

There has historically been so little response, I thought there was insufficient interest in further updates. But here goes for 9/08:

Total listings: 490 (8/08-611, 7/08-565, 6/08-535, 5/08-486, 4/08-458, 2/08-413)

$1 mill+: 49 (8/08-51, 7/08-57, 6/08-58, 5/08-57, 4/08-57, 2/08-47)

$500-999K: 144 (8/08-157, 7/08-174, 6/08-163, 5/08-152, 4/08-143, 2/08-122)

Mews for sale: 22 (8/08-22, 7/08-22, 6/08-23, 5/08-23, 4/08-23, 2/08-23)

Significant decrease in the number of houses on the market. The listings do not reveal wheather this is due to sales, or merely homes being taken off the market in the fall - which I believe is normally considered the slowest time for house sales.

Asking $2.3 mill accoding to this. They describe it as "The most admired and prestigious residence in Glen Ellyn!" Whaddya think?

Check out the photos. I think it would be quite suitable as a GEBB clubhouse!

That house - the one on the corner of Park and Hill - will sell by the end of the year. I'd bet on it. That house has something that very few homes have. It is a prestigious property on a double lot - or so it seems - and the pictures reveal incredible details.

If my memory serves me correctly, this house has a bowling alley in the basement.

Magnificent, really! Appears to be up to date and well maintained. Two million is not what it used to be and the Fall is not the best season to sell but price seems right on if not a little low. It won't take long for it to snatched up, IMO.

Let me get this straight. That "estate" has exactly one more bedroom than my "estate"? If that's the case, the selling price had better include the Fu Dogs.

According to Zillow it sold in 6/97 for $700K.
At the time, my understanding is that it was "very dated" to say the least both in terms of decor and utilities/amenities.
The lot used to go all the way to Turner, but they sold the S 1/3 or so where a new house was built.
Really exercising the grey matter, I think a previous owner used to be the team physician for the Bulls or somesuch.
And tho I've never seen it, I believe the bowling alley is/was not regulation length.

Oh my gosh! That's exactly what my house looks like on the inside!

Well, without the 1,000 matchbox cars, My Little Pony Castle, ground up goldfish crackers in the carpet and random books, crayons and markers strewn about. . . but aside from that and the nice furniture and spectacular kitchen, it's exactly the same. Amazing.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't even afford the taxes.

Per Milton Township Assessor's databse,

2007 taxes - $29,824

The $30k/yr in taxes on that joint is more than my tax bill and mortgage payments combined!

It lists Ben Franklin as the grade school. I think that is wrong.

No, I know families in that area that went to Franklin...I actually think it's one of those grey areas that you can either choose which school, Lincoln or Franklin...or maybe it was that families were grandfathered into Franklin, if older siblings were already there. Somebody probably knows this better than I do.
