Obituary:
Jed W. Soukup 46, of Montgomery, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday evening, October 9, 2009. He was born March 6, 1963 in St. Charles, the son of John and Lou Alice (Little) Soukup.

He approached life with zest and enthusiasm. Jed loved anything to do with water, and especially kayaking. His love of the outdoors, the beauty and his appreciation of nature provided great pleasure for Jed on his many backpacking trips. Over the years, Jed enjoyed the camaraderie of playing softball for almost 3 decades and 2 generations with family and friends.

Jed worked in the family business, Soukup’s Hardware, with his brother, Ryan in Glen Ellyn. His patience with customers and co-workers showed his caring and good hearted nature towards people.

His enthusiasm for life, love of family and ready laughter will be missed by all who knew Jed.

Jed is survived by his loving parents, Lou Alice and Bill Carter of Elgin; his dear siblings, Robert (Pat) Carter of St. Charles, Marybeth Carter of Palm Springs, CA, Scott (Lisbeth Anderson) Soukup of Elgin, Ryan (Julie) Soukup of St. Charles, Susan (James) Olszewski of Batavia and Julie (Ron) Lewis of Geneva and many nieces and nephews.

Our warmest hopes and prayers to the family. 46 is way too early to go. I love Soukup's, and think it's one of the anchors of the Glen Ellyn shopping district and experience. I travel a lot, have seen lots of cities and towns, and can tell you, it's rare to find a true, family owned and run, hardware store anymore, of that caliper. I'd much rather pay a few extra bucks to buy something from a place like that, knowing it goes to a local family, instead of saving a few extra bucks to shop at Corporate America.
