History is important. Not all of the buildings in the CBD are economically obsolete while others are way past their twilight years. Throwing a mix of newer, bigger buildings wont solve the problem. Just newer, bigger buildings with the same underlying problems. I'd like to see the 20's here but make it the roaring 20's I heard it was great back then! It was!. . . . . Wasn't it Clam? 95% of all Village/City/Town renaissances that you've seen over the past decade has come through TIF money. Do you think that the Park District, School Board, etc. will allow that to happen in Glen Ellyn? I say no....no way....no way in hell....in that order.

Agreed! Now lets sit back and watch them fight amongst themselves! I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me. Ayn Rand Anthem |

Coincidentally, the D41 Financial Report on that thread specifically mentions the lost revenue from the creation of a TIF by Glendale Heights in the D41 attendance area. |

Does anyone know exactly how a TIF works? I don't believe the school system, park district, etc. has a say.
Also- in regards to the 4 people who voted yes last night, they do read the board. At least one does that I know of. I think one just flys out of state as soon as the meetings are over to avoid having to be a leader or make a decision and the other three walk around saying let's move on. There were several points attempted to be made last night about their tactics and pressure. Even after all that, at the very end, one Trustee thanked Trustees Lee and Armstrong for their work on tightening up the contract to allow it to be voted on. Many of us there thought that while it was a nice gesture to make to those trustees, what about a thanks to Ladesic for all of his work to make sure the Village is not taken by a con man? Rude, spiteful and uncalled for. Way to start the new project by creating a further divide amongst the Trustees. Team work, right? I was also glad that the EDC came up. Would we be in this bad of shape if we had an effective EDC? Granted that the Village does not invest in our downtown, but if we had an effective EDC, would we have this many vacancies/closings? Would we have a Village that invests in the downtown if the EDC could point out advantages of programs, etc.? What about the guy who stood up stating that he has only spoken to the EDC once and was never asked about what could be changed to make things better? That guy is involved with many leases on Main Street and has relationships with many business owners. How can this be acceptable? I hope the EDC is not involved in this project. It will only make things worse. On the other hand, I do hope the residents get involved in the project. Whether it is on the project teams, interviews or town all meetings, make your views known. Suggestions, desires and problem identification can only help in this process. Since we are investing in TBS, let's hold them accountable for producing a solid, implementable plan. To do this, we need to be involved in every step. Let's also remember that 2 of the Trustees will still be on the board when the plan is finished and it is time to vote on implementing or non implementing the plan. |

Yes.
While it is true that the other taxing bodies do not have a vote, it would comical to suggest that they don't have a say...especially here in Glen Ellyn. "Often Wrong, Never in Doubt" |

I too noticed this. Was it merely a separate thanks as Lee and Armstrong were the ones chosen to review the contract or was it a slap at Trustee Ladesic? If it's the latter, although not surprising, it was totally uncalled for. Maybe he'll issue another apology though. If it's the former, no harm. "Often Wrong, Never in Doubt" |
