Would a coyote attack a dog on a leash? I did read of one incident where the dog was not on a leash but the owner was right there in the front yard area with the dog when an attack occured. The coyote that frequents our area is very large, probably male, and very very healthy looking. A beautiful specimen. My 25 lb dog chased one out of the yard a few years back but now I always put all 3 dogs out together, just to be sure. We don't have nearly the number of squirrels we used to.

Depends on a lot of things-How hungry is the coyote, would be number one. I'm thinking a 25 pound dog might be at risk, unless it is aggresive. Most predators are looking for the easy meal, small creatures that can be easily dispatched with minimal risk of injury to the predator.

A couple of weekends ago we were waiting to tee off on #1 at Western Acres, and a very healthy looking coyote came walking down the left side of the fairway towards us. Appeared to be stalking squirrels as they scampered about. Came to within 50 yards or so of the tee, and crossed the fairway in the direction of the river. Showed absolutely no fear of people.

My dogs are very small. One is 16 pounds the other is 6 pounds. They would make a tasty treat for a coyote.

Hey JR, come down to my street on Churchill Woods and snap a few glossies. We have 2 coyotes that you could put a saddle on them. A lone coyote is not a huge issue but will attack a small dog or cat. More than 1, and they've been known to pack up and attack large dogs and even kids, like what has happened out West. They may look cute and cuddly but they are not.

BTW, if you were home...we coulda done something. Parker and the kids vamoosed up to MI and left me alone. So now I'm sitting around paying bills and typing stupid stuff on the internet.

Bummer Clam: could have gone up with my buddy and "Buddy Love" to do some grouse hunting and maybe even bag a coyote. Bet you would look like Daniel Boone in your coyote cap!
