Hi, I am new to the area and I am hoping to find an apartment near the Metra station. Any suggestions/recommendations on where to look or avoid? Thank you in advance.

There are apartments above a lot of the buildings in the downtown GE area. I would walk around and look for signs in store windows and such. I looked at an apartment above the theater or nearly above the theater a long time ago... it had a very strange layout, like it was 1 big apartment that was cut up into smaller apartments.

I also know that there is an apartment for rent above the resale shop near the College Ave station in Wheaton... you might want to check that out as well.

I would stay away from the downtown Wheaton apartments (also above most of the buildings). I have heard of a lot of issues with the person that is the landlord for most of those. Don't really know about that kind of thing with GE though.

Check Rent.com, and search for Glen Ellyn, as well as listings in the local papers.

There is a "For Rent" sign at the apartments on the corner of Park and Duane. One block from the train.

There is also a "For Rent" sign in front of the apartment building on Pennsylvania, between Park and Forest and one block to the train. This is the "good" side of the tracks if you have a tendency to run late in the morning and commute to Chicago. Wink

I also saw a for rent sign in front of those apartments by Spicely Park, off of Taylor. They look small though-like studios?

Why? Have you violated your parole?

Oh, the new guy sneaks one in! J/k Clam!

Sarad: My wife and I are new to the area too, just moved here a month ago from North Carolina. We finally had the chance to walk around downtown this past weekend, and I noticed quite a few "for rent" signs. It might be worth your time to grab a cup of coffee and go for a stroll.
