I had the incredible experience to be part of something really historic this past Sunday at First Congregational Church in Glen Ellyn. For those of you that don't know this church well, we happen to have one of the finest pastors around (just my opinion). The Reverend Dr. Lillian Daniel is truly an inspiration, speaks from her heart with true passion, and is one of the best public speakers I have been able to witness in my lifetime.
This past Sunday, Rev. Daniel gave the most thought-provoking sermon. So thought provoking and eloquent it was that she received a 5-minute standing ovation from the entire congregation...showing their support and solidarity for what was spoken that morning. If you would like, please go to the following link to read the sermon. If you would like, you can also go to the church website (www.firstconge.org) and click on 'sermons' and then go to that sermon, 'The Outlaw,' and can also click on 'listen' to actually hear her speak. The Outlaw sermon 11/18/07 “In a letter to "Dear Abby" a reader complained that a gay couple was moving in across the street and wanted to know what he could do to improve the quality of the neighborhood. Her suggestion - 'You could move.'” |

Maybe not a full five minutes...could be stretching it a bit, but it was a good long time and something I had never witnessed in a church before. Of course, I'm sitting there saying to myself 'I have to stand and clap when she's finished, but I'm going to look like a fool when no one else does this.' It was a total shock when I wasn't the only one who literally 'leapt' to their feet and applauded. Made me proud of my fellow Glen Ellynites in attendance that day. “In a letter to "Dear Abby" a reader complained that a gay couple was moving in across the street and wanted to know what he could do to improve the quality of the neighborhood. Her suggestion - 'You could move.'” |

They have great programs for the kids too. “In a letter to "Dear Abby" a reader complained that a gay couple was moving in across the street and wanted to know what he could do to improve the quality of the neighborhood. Her suggestion - 'You could move.'” |
