Here are some photos from the storm last night in my neighborhood. All this is in about an 8 block radius of our home. Shots are from late last night and early this morning. In my travels, I counted 3 crushed minivans, 2 cars, 2 houses that were hit by falling trees, 16 downed power lines and 4 completely downed power poles. There are 2 strange shots in the set. Shot 11 is a tree in the front yard that must have blown from elsewhere and speared itself into the ground and shot 61 is of another tree (about a 20" diameter trunk) that I could not find the stump, so it must have blown from someone's backyard or something over a house.

Amazingly, a policeman this morning said that nobody was hurt.

I saw you snooping around my house this morning in your black car on Park. You took several shots of the tree snapped off at the base on the east side of Park. You then went south on Park, but must have missed the tree laying on top of one of my neighbor's houses on the west side of Park or I'm sure you would have taken that picture too. Great shots, even for a Sox Fan.

Your pictures are awesome! Makes me thankful that we had nothing more than a few stray branches come down. Keep up the good work...with all the great GE shots you and 58 have posted, you could collaborate on a book! Heck, I'd buy it.

Some leaves fell our cars...seems my front gutter must have been clogged (stood on the porch railing and pulled the debris out)...and my wife left the window of the wagon open just a pinch. Had to wipe some water off the inside of the passenger side door.

I will be over this afternoon to get that. Hope your house was okay!

Western Avenue is now mostly clear due to some residents that felt the need to take it into their own hands and not wait for ComEd anymore. Ignoring danger of live lines (I do not have power, but do have internet, both on the same poles, so there are live things still running) and decided to cut up everything.

Was there any reason why the village did not jump to action when ComEd declined to help in a timely manner? Were there legal reasons why the did not? Why did the residents have to do this? I'm all for the concept of residents pitching in. mind you, but where was the village?

Fountains in front of the Civic Center don't just appear out of thin air you know. Priorities have to be set and executed...

SoxFan-

I have only 2 things...

Shot 11 if cool, but its not a tree, its a very large branch from immediately above where the tree was. I live in this neighborhood and saw where the branch came from.

Also, are you one of the people that took their chainsaws to the tree on Western? I was wondering who could possibly be that stupid. Not only did you risk your lives and the lives of others, what you did was illegal. I saw you all doing it and couldn't believe it. Turned around and walked away... I'm shocked no one has posted before me how terrible an idea that was. Didn't the guy from ComEd come and tell you to stop? I mean honestly...wow.

Thanks for the info on the tree, boy, it looked exactly like a complete tree. Pretty cool that it just fell like that.

Um, no, I was not going near that when they were cutting the wood. No way. I did not have power, but I did have Comcast internet, so there were live wires in that mess. No way in hell would I touch any wire or help out in that. What they did was completely wrong, and not really needed since GE employees showed up a hour after they were done, and not really needed since ComEd just needed to route power around that.

Thank God!

I was so shocked when I saw them going at the tree. Its just soooooo dangerous!

About the info on the tree on Prairie, it was quite a sight! The tree that it came from is about 6 feet in diameter and my car was parked only a few feet away, which was scary. It was a huge branch!
