Nice try, Michael.

What do you think of that defense, Fan? Would it have worked in Illinois where we are not as legally adept?

Who are you kidding? Wisconsin is just as inept as Illinois.

It's an interesting argument. Where the speed limit jumps back and forth on a road, it could be effective. However, 88.....88mph....the state max. speed limit is 65mph....who cares what is posted when one exceeds the max. limit by 23 mph?

...Tatarelis told Anderson that Bader had a long criminal history, including convictions for several burglaries.

Bader's real first name is Kasim, but he used many other aliases to avoid possible arrest and prosecution, said Tatarelis, who said Samer is the name of the defendant's brother.

Bader shot him to death accidentally in 1989, Tatarelis said.

Yeah, accidentally!!! You know, when you are pointing a LOADED gun at someone and pretending to pull the trigger and, low and behold, an actual bullet comes out and kills the other person.......strictly an accident......

From the New York Times:

Metro Datelines; Youth Fatally Shoots His Younger Brother

A 14-year-old who had been playing with toy guns with his 16-year-old brother in Brooklyn was killed on Friday when the older brother brought their father's revolver into the game and accidentally shot the boy in the head, the police said yesterday.

The older brother, Kasim Bader, was taken into custody on charges of second-degree manslaughter and possession of a weapon, the police said.

The 14-year-old, Samer Bader, received a bullet in the right temple and was dead on arrival at the Lutheran Medical Center, a police spokesman, Sgt. Edward J. Burns, said.

The shooting took place around 5 P.M. in Apartment 6 at 850 42d Street in the Sunset Park section. The brothers lived there with their father, Mohamed Bader, and were alone in the apartment at the time, neighbors said.

"They were fooling around with two plastic toy guns and apparently they knew dad had a real gun so they added that to the mix and God only knows what happened but the 16-year-old ends up shooting his brother," Sergeant Burns said.

"They were good boys and didn't cause any trouble," said Maria Rivera, a neighbor. She said the boys and their father had moved in only five months ago. The landlord, Kostas Stambules, said the father was "either divorced or separated."

"received a bullet in the right temple"

I don't think I've ever heard it put quite so politely before.

I may have related this story once before on the GEMB. But back when I was a Michigander, I was speeding along the Dan Ryan express lanes heading back to Michigan. The cop pulled me over and hit me for having a Ford Ranger in the express lanes and for going 63 in a 55.

I did some research on Illinois code and there is a rule stating that if the speed on an Interstate is less than 65, they do have to post signs every XXX feet. I was all set to prove in court that this was not the case on the section of Dan Ryan I was on but my case got dismissed when the cop didn't show up.

So, I don't know if it would have worked, but I think it could be a legit argument. Now, doing 88 is another thing entirely, but he might argue that his fine should be reduced or something.

Only a first year law student would try that defense. Not that I did.....

Happy Birthday Charlessa Wiggins......

Looks good for a buck ten. That's really old. Not sure I'd want to live that long, but it seems to suit her just fine.

What a feel-good story. Happy birthday, Charlessa Wiggins! Smile

In other GE people news, I watched "Survivor" the other night. Is that creative editing being utilized by CBS to make our local representative appear so, so clueless, and socially inept or is this why they chose her???

Survivor using creative editing? Say it isn't so! I believe everything I read and see.

My guess is she's out sometime during show #3, and before the tribal council voting. You heard it here first.

according to her interviews, yes. I'll have to be sure and watch her on any interview she gives AFTER getting kicked off to see if she's as wacky as she's portrayed. Sheesh - her first few comments that aired were odd.

Caught the first episode on OnDemand....

she's definitely this year's "Crazy Old Lady" that all the young hotness mocks. Every one of these team reality shows has one. Much like the "angry one", the model/princess, the agitative nerd and the "touch stone". There is a model for each character the have to fill. Lucky for GE, we get tied to the crazy lady.
