Finally people are outraged by the COD Board of Trustees. Chairman McKinnon learned how to manipulate the system at Triton then moved his base of operations to COD where he could play with the $200 million building fund.
Thank you alxyz, for keeping us posted. Please keep the information flowing. COD is too big of a community asset (Glen Ellyn's largest employer and tourist attraction, to name two) to operate under a cloud. Appreciate the info!
In last week's college Newspaper The Courier under the heading "Breuder claims he is first choice for pres" news editor Juan Garza reported that two local newspapers have reported that "Robert Breuder is the lead candidate for the next school president. The stories claim that both Breuder, and an official from Harper College, have confirmed that an offer has been extended to Breuder and that a contract is being negotiated."
Curiously, the Director of Public Information, Bill Troller said, "He also had spoken with people close to McKinnon, and no one could confirm how Breuder could go on the record since the Board of Trustees have not met to formally vote on the selection of the new school president, something that is required by Board policy."

A major coup for McKinnon is the complete revision of the College Policy and Procedures Manual which his two appointees, Atkinson and Carlin, foisted on the College last month. They want it approved by the next Board meeting. As reported in the college paper "Some 70 changes are infused into the document available on the Board's Web page, but many of the proposals are still being discovered because policies were renumbered without cross-references and strikeouts to show changes. In fact all references to previous revisions and amendments are gone."
And why do these two politically appointed novice trustees want to completely revamp what has evolved over 40 years? According to the Courier " Trustees Atkinson and David Carlin said the current policy document is "horrible." Atkinson said the implied policy basically was rewritten from scratch to eliminate "gaps" and make the process of finding policies easier. The board is moving swiftly because issues need to be addressed that aren't under the current policy, although these issues are unknown."
McKinnon, Atkinson, and Carlin need to be replaced in the April election. That is the only solution I see. Hopefully some of the outrageous actions of McKinnon will come out in the sleazebag lawsuit.
Guess what folks, the changes the Board is trying to ram through were most likely the ideas of the incoming president. The same changes happened at Harper in order to silence the critics and snuff out real shared governance. Board chair McKinnon was cozy with Breuder before he applied for the job. Divide and conquer is the theme. If the king doesn't like the outcome of suggestions/input he will change the rules until no dissent is left. Get ready for more, COD

The comments section of the above article contains this interesting background information.
Five of the eight trustees at DuPage are active Republicans. One trustee, David Carlin, ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for state legislature in the 48th state House district of Illinois in 2008. Kory Atkinson and Joseph Snyder, fellow trustees, contributed $3,550 to Carlin’s campaign. Carlin, was a long time staffer for the Illinois Republican Party. That organization is famous for this same kind of power grabbing. While Carlin was there at the state GOP, regular Republicans were routinely shut out, just like students and faculty are now being shut out at this college
Just to clear up a few things. The two men appointed to fill the slots of female trustees who were run off the board were Kory Atkinson and Joe Snyder (not Carlin). The four up for election next April are Ch. McKinnon, V-Ch. Nowak, Atkinson and Snyder. Carlin's term goes until 2013. Atkinson and Carlin were charged with REVIEWING Board policy--instead Atkinson totally rewrote it in such a way that it was incredibly hard to figure out just what he hid in there. Credit the faculty with running it through a plagerism program and meticulously going through to locate the bombshells. The video on the Board of Trustees website is worth a watch, starting at the 43 minute mark.
