So...power tried to go out many times, but just couldn't do it. We ran into the basement after the sirens went off and the radio said a tornado was in carol stream on it's way to addisson and elmhurst. Supposedly a lot of power lines down in franklin park. Have to see if my workplace is still standing tomorrow...

All houses across the street are dark - this side is fine. We are watching the neighbors' across the street house for them, but had a garage door code to get in - no key. I'm hoping their back-up sump holds on!

The sky was a lot of colors - dark purple, green!!

We have power - it's amazing! A big storm and we still have power! It did go out for about two minutes but that was it.

Ummm, well aside from the fact that there are many nice families there and apparently a tornado touched down, I also get my paycheck from that community!

No call from my security company in Carol Stream, so either the building is gone or everything sems to be fine.

Go figure...May sprinkles and we lose power for 1/2 a day. This awesome storm and barely a flicker. Are we going to have to go to the next council meeting and praise ComEd now? Razz

Paycheck??? Since when???

There are nice families everywhere. And bad ones that deserve the wrath of God.

Too bad God doesn't hand-pick who gets hit by the tornado... or your car! Big Grin

Well, I've been working some so I will start getting a paycheck again soon. My husband is very happy about that.

Any truth to the reports that the fountain in front of the Civic Center was toppled by the winds tonight?

Looks like the storm followed Hill St. Some areas along Hill, Main St. and Prospect look like war zones. Lots of trees and power lines down.
Downtown is all lit up. South of 38 is all lit up. CLEA is mostly out.
Derby Glen was out. Westerners and Oak St.folks were spared.

I think it was ok. I ran up to that neighborhood to check on the home you went through and everyone appeared lit up. Didn't see any trees or wires down. My girls are at one of your neighbors and they said they saw a funnel. I am certain you were in the basement but did the boys see anything?

I did not hear the storm siren here on the south side of GE.....Either the thing is broken, or my new windows are sound proof.....

Thanks - I just drove by and that area looks fine.

We were looking out and that first line of low clouds looked very threatening, but the rotating cloud stayed aloft. Boys and animals were all in the basement - except for the son at Wrigley. He said it was crazy there.

I think I heard the lightning strike that wiped out power for most of the neighborhood - we are lucky - and have a generator to spare if it is needed still in the morning!

Been up since 3 - hubby is in the generator business. Had to go out on call. Finally got a call at 3 for 2 places, but other than that - really no problems. Very lucky. Across the street - no power yet Hill Ave. Feel bad but I believe and hope that flooding may not be a problem as it is no longer raining. But looking at radar now, looks like more are a'coming but could head south. Called my friend hours ago - like 6 or 7ish to warn her of the storm. She was at the Cubs game and it was a time saver she said. Wow I was actually able to give a good 'heads-up'. She and her husband were prepared to go someplace else, bathrooms, bar, etc. and wait it out. Apparently there were 2 delays then called with a loss. Bummer. I'll see what time she gave up and came home. She had called me back a little later when they were doing the sirens. I've guess I've never heard the Chicago sirens go off. I could hear them in the background of her phone.

No cable though -had it until about 10PM then buzzzzz/fuzzzz. I guess i was the first to report the outage. I have WOW.

Saw through trees what appeared to be a maybe a lightening strike near GBW. ?? Pretty amazing. We/I tried to watch the storm. Was not as bad as it was lead to believe -at least in my neighborhood. So looking out my back door it wasn't something I haven't seen before. I think 2 transformers did something by me - but tried to hang on and one did. Did the whole blue/purple/green hummmmmm-glow kinda thing. I'm on a different grid than most of my neighbors. I guess as of now - none of 'any' tornados have been verified, whatever that means. Wow, winds reported 94 mph 3 miles off Lake Michigan Shore -Wow!

How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year,
Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.
