I know a number of my GEBB buddies were out of power again today. Took them only nine or ten hours to get it back up this time. WTF? The storm only lasted 10-15 minutes! I had to break out the generator and hook up my fridges and sump pump to make sure things didn't go from annoying to worse. Anyone else getting as tired of this as me?

Not a fun day for some.
I talked to a few folks who were out for a few hours and some who were still out at 2:30.
From what I have heard everyone should have had power restored by 4:00 or so.
Please let me know if you know anyone still without power. I would like to compare that to what we are being told by ComEd and offer any help I can.

Glen Ellyn's PD, Public Works and hired tree-trimming crew did an great job clearing streets and helping out with storm damage this a.m.! Com Ed restored electric about nine hours later...which, looking on the bright side, is better than last August...

Overhead lines + old trees + intense storm = power outage. Can't help it. Get these lines underground, outages would be a lot less.

I personally like the outages. The neighbors are all out talking and enjoying the beautiful day, no TV, and you get things done around the house that you have been putting off.

And I seriously would take a 9 hour power outage over being steamrolled by a tornado and losing it all like some have in the last few weeks.

Note to self - start generator for season, just to be sure it's not gunked up.

Note to others - if we have power and you don't, feel free to call next time and borrow our generator - it is on wheels. We did not lose power yesterday - just a light flicker or two.

Note to BlueEchoes - that perception will change in about 7 months.

Hi all,

I'm one of the people that lost power yesterday, and since we have a baby as well, we are staying with family 40 miles away. The ComEd phone message has no specific info about our area, and I obviously can't just run home quickly and check. Can anyone tell me if the stoplight at Western and Geneva is back on? My house is on that same circuit so if the light's on, we're all good.

I'd really appreciate anyone's help! Thanks in advance!

Good luck hooking up your washer and dryer to that generator....you know, so you can wash your kids' blanket that she can't sleep without. Or your other kids swaddle blanket that she seemingly can't sleep without.

Ah, how life is about to change for you.

Thanks, Fan! The weird thing is, we were at our house until 4:30 yesterday and still didn't have power back, so maybe we're not actually on that circuit after all. I hate ComEd.

I need to get myself a monopoly like ComEd. Shittiest utility company in the world.

BE, Appreciate the perspective....really, I do. We are definitely luckier than most. Middlein's neighborhood had a lot more branches down. I knew they would be longer to get back on track. And, I honestly feel sort of bad for all the Dad's that work for ComEd who had to give up their Father's Day to get us back on track. So, for that, I am thankful. I do agree that we need to get these powerlines underground....we really shouldn't be surprised.
