I did not hear the storm siren here on the south side of GE.....Either the thing is broken, or my new windows are sound proof.....

Thanks - I just drove by and that area looks fine. We were looking out and that first line of low clouds looked very threatening, but the rotating cloud stayed aloft. Boys and animals were all in the basement - except for the son at Wrigley. He said it was crazy there. I think I heard the lightning strike that wiped out power for most of the neighborhood - we are lucky - and have a generator to spare if it is needed still in the morning!

Been up since 3 - hubby is in the generator business. Had to go out on call. Finally got a call at 3 for 2 places, but other than that - really no problems. Very lucky. Across the street - no power yet Hill Ave. Feel bad but I believe and hope that flooding may not be a problem as it is no longer raining. But looking at radar now, looks like more are a'coming but could head south. Called my friend hours ago - like 6 or 7ish to warn her of the storm. She was at the Cubs game and it was a time saver she said. Wow I was actually able to give a good 'heads-up'. She and her husband were prepared to go someplace else, bathrooms, bar, etc. and wait it out. Apparently there were 2 delays then called with a loss. Bummer. I'll see what time she gave up and came home. She had called me back a little later when they were doing the sirens. I've guess I've never heard the Chicago sirens go off. I could hear them in the background of her phone.
No cable though -had it until about 10PM then buzzzzz/fuzzzz. I guess i was the first to report the outage. I have WOW.
Saw through trees what appeared to be a maybe a lightening strike near GBW. ?? Pretty amazing. We/I tried to watch the storm. Was not as bad as it was lead to believe -at least in my neighborhood. So looking out my back door it wasn't something I haven't seen before. I think 2 transformers did something by me - but tried to hang on and one did. Did the whole blue/purple/green hummmmmm-glow kinda thing. I'm on a different grid than most of my neighbors. I guess as of now - none of 'any' tornados have been verified, whatever that means. Wow, winds reported 94 mph 3 miles off Lake Michigan Shore -Wow!

I read the term "whale's penis" on d-listed last night before posting. It made me laugh....so of course I stole it. And it is a play on the term that San Diego is named after.

And while we are totally off topic, let's send our best to Christina Applegate for a successful treatment and speedy recovery, as her character was pretty sure that San Diego was not named for that mammalian appendage. On topic - I have checked two vacationing families' houses for them and it appears that the power came back on around 4:30 am and neither had water in their basements.

We got off relatively lightly - only a couple of branches the diameter of my leg (or perhaps a cetacean's member?) down. In the immediate neighborhood, several trees lost major portions of trunks as big around as my waist (tho perhaps not the waists of certain folk in the CLE). Man, silver maples suck! And I saw one tall pine tree that was uprooted and lying on its side. You know, given the endowment of certain species, I'm starting to think the Fan really has a hard on for our neighbors 3 towns to the east.

I'm on the south end of GE (can see Fawell from my place) and I did hear the sirens - took me a few minutes to figure out what that noise was, and another few minutes to gather cats into one of the bathrooms. I guess I need better soundproofing when I replace the windows. However, for once never lost power for a minute.

We're on the west side of glen ellyn, north of Hill, south of the tracks, and still without electricity. Comed is only saying we could be without power for "several days". doesn't sound promising to me. anyone hearing anything else about restoration?

Newish windows + window air conditioners going full blast = not hearing the sirens. Fortunately I had a house full of teenagers and they all started getting calls from their parents. Here's the stupid part - some of those parents wanted their kids to drive home - at the height of the storm - so they could be "safe." Um, no? One kid insisted, but I managed to keep the others where they were.
My husband was at O'Hare waiting for a flight that was eventually canceled...he said nobody said a word about the tornado warning, he was just sitting in a bar watching the Cubs game and wondering why everyone was evacuating Wrigley, when I called and told him about it. But I read in the paper today that officials said they made everyone go down to the lower level. Not according to my husband.

I'm sure Vicky Hase and Curtis Barrett have their boots on the ground and are working hard on this situation...just one more thing they are doing to make your life better.

Hang tough. It was three days with no power for us last August. In the end, it all worked out and the neighbors all banded together to help each other out, so that was the nice side of the whole thing. And Yoss, I'd be happy to go Freudian on Fan but since he has a newborn in his home, I don't think it takes any kind of counseling training to understand what's going on!

No power in ½ the coveted YMCA District. Since Lambert is the dividing line some of us have extension cords running across the street. This morning I was charging my blackberry before going to Caribou to do some work. I’m chatting on the phone when it suddenly fly’s out of my hand. As I am watching in horror as my Blackberry sails across the house I hear a fire truck blasting its horn. I ran out front to see the street sweeper collecting extension cords as the fire department tries in vain to get the drivers attention. Now I have to buy my neighbor a new extension cord!
