Funniest story EVER!!! Is the street sweeper blind?
"The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith. " -Bertrand Russell V. Delong

North of Hill, east side checking in with a report. No electricity for us, but overall outage is spotty. A block here, a block there. ComEd giving nothing on restoration status (see IJR's post above). I haven't even seen a ComEd truck yet, so not optimistic.

OMG. That is too damn funny.
Not funny is the fact that I still have no power on Hill...

We were without power until about noon today. I was so sorry that I hadn't filled the freezer with ice cream so I would have to eat it all to save it from melting. We were without a solid connection of Internet and Cable until about 4 PM today. Isn't it amazing that the street sweepers are out the morning after the storm cleaning up extension cords, while the CBD just gets dirtier????

That had to be microburst. The Ridgewood - Glenwood area is still a mess. Very large trees were twisted and snapped off - Wow! That must have been scary!!

Is Tom OK? He lives right there.

Also on Lambert and can see Fawell...heard the sirens and my 5 year old was NOT happy. Went to the basement at least twice. No power disruption for ONCE! I almost had a heart attack in disbelief!
Works power was out in Westmont...I was begged to go buy coffee and bagels from Panera. Our power went back on after a couple hours. It's no fun working in the dark.

Over here at Hill and Lorraine, we didn't get power back until around 6:00 p.m. Not sure exactly, because we were out and about most of the day. Anyway, we're totally lucky to have zero damage and not even one downed branch, so we have to throw away some mayonnaise, no big whoop! Considering that we're in the worst area, we're very, very lucky!

We had no electricity from Monday evening, all day Tuesday, until last night while I was sleeping. A neighbor was able to get a generator that he shared with us so that both houses could have functioning refrigerators. But that was several hours into the outage, so I will have to check things out to see what foo survived.

Speaking for those of us without power, there are still between 2,700 and 2,900 customers in Glen Ellyn without power as of 9:30 am Wednesday morning. We haven't seen a ComEd truck yet, and have heard it might be up to a week. On the bright side, a street sweeper made the rounds at 8:30 this morning, so we have that going for us.

perplexed - I just drove down your street and over the extension cords - four of them. I told my son in the car with me about what happened yesterday. We did see the street cleaner today headed north on Lorraine. Do you still have power - I mean from the cord????
I have a generator sitting in my garage, perplexed. It started last week on one pull. Come and get it if you want it.

Yea I heard the street sweeper go past my house this morning. I ran outside to make sure he lifted the brush this time. I guess he realized it was easier to lift the brush than to extricate cords from his truck. Shrugged, where did you hear that it might take a WEEK????????? GEmom2, thanks for the offer. We have a family generator that I can use. Right now the extension cords seem to be working.

The "week" was relayed to me by a Public Works employee, as he pointed out the complexity of some of the repairs, as in our case, one of the poles and supports were damaged and would need to be replaced before service could be restored. Different type of crew. It was described to me that the "easier" repair of downed lines to homes is a priority, getting service back as quickly as possible to the greatest number of customers.

Perplexed - I heard about the street sweeper incident from the neighbor with whom we were sharing our electricity. I couldn't believe it. I'm glad he hadn't needed my cords. I was pleased to see that the power was restored prior to dinner last night. I'll bet working from home hasn't been too productive this week.
