One of our citizens aboard the 4:11 gave Glen Ellyn a shot in the arm and backed up our claims as The Friendly Village.

As he bounded out of the train, he turned and yelled, "F*** y**!!" to those standing in the vestibule. He took two steps and turned around to add, "And if you pull that sh*t again tomorrow, you'll have to deal with me!!"

I think the scenario was that the gent got up late from his seat and the regular crowd that parties in the vestibule resumed their regular spots. I think he had to push his way out prior to ending up at College Avenue. Either way, an entertaining end of the day as you rarely ever hear the F-bomb full force with a crackling voice in public. And the threat? Total icing on the cake. Those in the vestibule, while most likely in the wrong (why do they stand there anyway?) appeared suitably amused.

I love this village.

I know exactly the loiterers of which you speak. The guy that gets off in Wheaton, but stands right in the middle of the vestibule starting at Villa Park? The Blake Clark lookalike (complete with neckbeard)? PBR tallboy guy? Yep...seen them all. Never understood the allure of the vestibule...Maybe I'm missing something?

One of our kids was bike riding the other day and was at a stoplight intersection waiting to cross. A man stopped his van and waved him to go ahead before he turned onto the cross street. The car behind the van began vigorously honking. The van driver then yelled back at the honking car, "F*** you, you A$$hole!" Both men proceeded to shout angrily at each other out their windows and as the light turned yellow, the second car almost got in an accident with a car making the same turn from the opposite direction.

My child did cross safely.

I don't think the shouted f-bomb is that rare, anymore - even in Friendly Glen Ellyn. Frown

Perhaps we should follow the lead of Worth and write "The Friendly Village" on our water towers as a reminder. Candidate ... get on that would you?

Well, we could use much of the same template and write "The F--- y-- village."

Let us know what happens tonight, okay clam? Should be entertaining.

Excellent post, Clam. I actually just dropped the 'F-bomb' to a lovely couple from Ohio that were driving in downtown Saugatuck and almost pushed me over into a parked car <on my bike> so they could get to the red light at Butler and Lake faster. Never thought I would do that in public and it made people stop on the sidewalk...but I also got some applause by, what I would think would be, other bikers that had wanted to do that for quite sometime but never got up the nerve.

Since I've never been a regular train rider, I am always amazed at the social morays that exist...almost like it is it's own sub-culture. If I ever get a Masters in Sociology <yeah, right>, this would be the topic of my Thesis.

Thanks for sharing... Smile Oh, and have a really f*c*ing fabulous birthday GEm2!!! Don't eat too much f*c*ing cake!
