8.1% increase.

Not so bad...although the 7% cap would be nice.

Did I read that someone on here had a 16% increase?

The whole thing is a joke. My understanding is that they promised that your assessed value won't go up by more than 7%, not your actual bill. What good is that?

Approx 5%. I guess all that bitching I've done may have paid off. Even though mine appears to be the lowest thus far, I still hate Milton Township and the Dupage County Supervisor of Assessments. Bunch of idiots.

Even though they know the housing market is in a slump, they are basing this increase in assessment on the last three years of sales. Over the course of the last three years, on average, home values are still up. Also part of the problem is a result of many homes just sitting, the downside hasn't been entered into their computer database.

I'd be interested in knowing if your tax bill is more or less when it comes next year. My guess is its more because they are simply going to jack-up your taxing neighborhood's rate. Wink

16.4%. the irony is that on the same day of receiving this news, the bank called with my latest appraisal. . . $105,000 less than the last appraisal.

I was thinking the same thing. In January, before I left my old firm to start my new firm, I went to the bank to get a line of credit on my house in case I didn't make a penny this year. The assessed value by the bank was 35k less than Milton Township's assessment.

WTF?

This is very good. Use it to appeal. If you need help let me know.

Assessment up about 5.75%. I'm sick of higher taxes!

You've got 30 days after these all get reported in the paper to file an appeal. $105K is a big difference. If you can find a few comps plus show the appraisal, I think you got a winner.

I'm running for office. My platform will be that the homeowner has the right to sell, and the county has the obligation to buy, their property for the converted assessed valuation.

My bet, assessed valuations go down.

How much does it really translate to? For 100 bucks....I'm too lazy to do it. For more....I may be interested.

The first step is to call Milton Township and discuss your issue with someone there. If they agree with you (.00001% chance) then you're done, if not then you need to obtain an appeal form by calling the DuPage County Board of Review. I thought the form was linked online, but I guess not. Once you complete the form and submit all your evidence, you will be given a hearing date. If representing yourself, you will have to show-up in person to present your case or if you hire Potts/Fish they will show up for you. If you want to meet somewhere, I'll show you how I went about doing mine. You'll save a ton of time.
