This morning as I finished pulling into the 6 hr parking spot behind the floral clock I heard a loud CRUNCH. It didn't sound like the snow under a tire, or the typical scrapping of bumper against concrete, but something a little more substantial.
When I looked below the front bumper I saw an ice chunk about the size of soccer ball pinned between the curb and the bumper. Unfortunately, the CRUNCH I heard was not the snow or iceberg, but the bumper spoiler disintegrating in the -12• temperature. Upside: damage is about $1K which would satisfy 2009's deductible!
Look out for those "indestructible icebergs!" I might even put this one on eBay!?!?!
My neighbor set a trap for me on Dec. 24. Woke up Christmas day and as I was backing out of the drive, there was a frozen hill of snow where my car's butt end usually extends...and I heard the same crunch. It was 3 degrees...plastic didn't stand a chance. The upside...the bumper on the upscale Volvo is two pieces and only the small part cracked. Painted and installed at Auto Body Village....$251.00. He does very good work, BTW.
