I was going to inquire if anyone smelled the odor outside today in downtown GE, West, Roosevelt Road corridor...then I found the answer... Smoke from Minnesota wildfire reaches Illinois
My trip this year through the BWCAW passed through some areas ravaged by past wildfires and it is almost a completely different experience in feel than tripping through the undamaged areas. Almost surreal. Takes away so much of the beauty. I understand the fire cycle concept etc., but it does pain me to think of the beauty gone up in smoke.
The Ham Lake fire in 2007 was caused by a campfire that a long-time BWCAW tripper thought he'd put out well enough. Unfortunately, after he was determined to be the guilty party, he actually committed suicide. Pretty sad.

I was listening to the radio and they mentioned the smoke from the wildfires - and in practically that same instant, I smelled it through my open windows. The air is really pretty bad with it; I had to turn off our whole house fan & shut the windows. My eyes were even itching from it. Weird.
My wife took to her feet this morning and walked a few blocks to find the source of the smoke. Needless to say, she couldn't locate what was causing it.
