We were in the boonies for Thanksgiving and there was leaf burning galore. It did smell pretty good - like back in the olden days when you burned everything! I did feel kind of naughty for enjoying it. Smile

Next time I see one will be the first time I see one. What color is their cruiser?

By the way, was there a reason why GE Police decided to rebrand their cars with new letters and colors?

It's a navy colored cruiser with yellowish writing on the side if I remember correctly.

EDIT - Yes, I do remember correctly.

These questions and more. . .including ones they pray that you will not ask. . .will be answered by Phil and Bill during Coffee with the Cops. Coming every month to a Civic Center near you. Ok...well, actually it's nearer to me.

Please note that refuse receptacles must weigh less than 50 pounds for curbside pickup. Anything over that may be denied...

"May" is the key word. Who knew those paper bags could hold so much? Not to mention a garbage can... Eek

I believe the weight is more for the wheeled garbage carts - 35, 65, and 95 gallon sizes are more than 50 lbs. At least the 65 and 95 are. Unless we were misinformed a few years back. Unsure what the exact weight limit is for the carts.

Those things can hold a ton, maybe two....and the guy operating the arm....he really doesn't care. I can almost guarantee that.

I hate the smell of burning leaves unless they are completely, totally dry....which they never are and then they make a crazy amount of smoke which I prefer not to inhale. Think of your asthmatic friends....

I called 911 on my neighbor twice for burning leaves. It was disgusting and I couldn't even be in my backyard. It's against the law folks! He was kind of a jag anyway...so it made the dialing easy.

For the record - as an avid gardener - I did the mow and compost thing - not a single leaf bag to the curb this fall. By May, the debris is almost completely broken down into organic material any plant would love. I do not have any gigantic oak trees, however - which would likely make a difference in my plan.

There are separate landfills or composting programs utilized for landscape waste. There are typically different costs for the waste hauler, too. Put in a regular garbage fill, there is very little decomposition of leaves or grass (or even the garbage) as there is no oxygen supplied to boost decomposition. (Source: old Chicago Children's Museum display on recycling Smile )

If you've ever driven between Miami and Orlando, the only high spots are a couple of landfills - or more accurately there, piles. The huge size does make you stop and think about how much stuff we throw away. Eek

Just mulch. Grab your mower...take off the bag.....and run those *******s over....again....and.....again.....and....again. Three days thereafter, the leaves will be completely gone. And the earth will thank you....and your grandchildren will thank you.

Thanks for the tip, but I think you guys are missing the part about me not wanting to do a thing.

you could always pray for a lot of wind and share your leaves with your neighbors.

No such luck, my yard is fenced. Never raked at my first home, one big wind and most would blow away. My neighbor used to get really po'd every year, but I was young and really didn't care. Life was much simpler back then.
