In another thread I mentioned our villages commemorative roadside plaques, and thought it might be fun to try to identify as many of them as we can. I'm talking about the blue/grey freestanding cast metal "hstorical markers."
Off the top of my head, these are the only ones I can remember with specific locations. - early baseball game: SW end of Lake Ellyn Park - mineral springs: E side of Riford @ Oak - downtown historic district: W side of Main @ Hawthorne - first train station: just N and W of current station Any others? Anyone out there blissfully ignorant of the existence of these markers? Or have you noticed them, but never taken the time to read them? |

Perry's Mastodon....triangle oak/riford/grand. I think that's where it is....right next to the poison ivy warning sign.

Glen Ellyn Place and Park Boulevard...location of the prototype for the village's new reflective street sign posts.
Isn't there something off of Lambert south of Roos Rd? |

Blissfully unaware...emphasis on blissfully.

On the wall of the building where Harris Bank is located. On Crescent.
The train station one you refer to is by the PP? I think there may be another one right near the station. "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith. " -Bertrand Russell V. Delong |

I believe there is one on the north side of Geneva, between Swift and the entrance to Ackerman

Also, not really a historical marker, but does anyone know about what looks like a grave marker on Park? This is on the hill where COD now practices football, between Falwell and College. Used to be a brick BBQ there before the football field. I believe the marker has "Grant Cetas" on it. Anyone know the story?

There is the marker in the alley off of Main Street just north of Crescent where the original McChesney and Miller was.

if you're talking about the rock on st. charles just west of swift, that commemorates the first (white) settlement of deacon churchill at that sight. some of his decedents still live on swift rd. just south of north ave. |
