Both kids and hubby have bites...everyone at work seems to have bites or someone close to them...anyone who spends any time outdoors seems to have them.

We have three victims here--my husband, son and myself. At first we thought we had mosquitos in the house, but when we could not find any, thought it was the dreaded itch mites
Gathered the full month's supply of branches for the curb last Sunday. I've got one on my forehead that makes me look like an Indian. And others. Many others.
Of course, just as these things go in life, as I was saying to myself on Monday evening "What the #*&% are all these things?" the Ch. 5 news story was just coming on.... "Got a lot of new red itchy bites all over your body? - stay tuned - news at 10."
Before we knew about the mites, my husband thought he had chigger bites.(last weekend) He used the old chigger remedy of painting each bite with nail polish. He claims it really helped. He still has the bites, but they no longer itch.

We used clear nail polish as kids. Grew up in a heavily wooded area and tramped around in it all the time. Needless to say, we had lots of bites and rashes. JOY. Clear nail polish did the trick for chiggers. The Benedryl itch stick thing works well for these things too if you don't want little shiny spots all over your body....

He used clear because it was the only color I had other than mauve. Mr. Scotty just called and he had looked up mites vs chiggers and found out that chiggers are larva of mites.

Went to the doctor for sports physicals yesterday and he said that the mites bite and do not crawl under the skin. Said over the counter Cortaid worked the best to stop itching to avoid infecting the bite.

I have them on my arm. This morning I woke up thinking I had been bitten by a mosquito, but the welt was much larger. The tiny bump in the middle didn't develop until a little later. This sounds like a reason not to do yard work
A co-worker tells me that Itch-X works the best for her...just thought I'd share.

Cortaid is working well. I wish there was something that could hide the HUGE red spot on my arm. All day long people at work were commenting on it. Some saying "I've got those too, what are they?" or giving that look like you have something they could catch.
I woke up with these one morning and thought, seriously, that we had bed bugs, because hubby travels a lot. But he was just fine. Then I read the Tribune article and realized it had to be the itch mites, because I'd been out in the garden. They're horribly itchy and if you get them on your face or neck - I had one on my neck about a month ago - get used to seeing them in the mirror because they remain for a long time. But the itch goes away after a couple of days. I put Benadryl Anti-itch cream on mine and it worked like a charm.
