Good to see so much progress has been made on the Duane Street townhome project.

Was there a projected finish date on this project, or did our town elders figure that was unnecessary given the builder's sterling reputation for prompt completion?

Is this going to be Glen Ellyn's own Block 37? Heck, if it is, there might be a skating rink in it for us! Wink

I knew someone would eventually bring this up. I wonder if there are credit issues. Hell, there are credit issues with firms/people who have sterling credit and haven't been through bankruptcy....so...my guess is that you will need to get used to that view. I think you'll be seeing that block in its present condition for the foreseeable future. Unless, of course, there is suddenly a huge demand for townhomes approaching seven figures on non-standard lots...backing up to a very bust rail line...and the Prairie Path...then they will get started. But it would probably be more profitable to erect Section 8 housing at this point.

Sure - times are tough all over. But a drive around just about any block in town will clearly reveal that some construction is underway. Seems to me that some people begin a construction project with the resources necessary to complete it. Other folks - not so much. So you gotta wonder what assurances the village required before allowing a specific speculator to raze such a large area in such a visible location.

Does this developer essentially have an open-ended grant to maintain this lot in whatever condition he considers financially advantageous to himself? What tools, if any, does the village have to require/ecourage what action by the builder? (I suspect few to none.)

Unless the village's master plan was simply to raze the buildings previously on the site...
