There appeared to be a major arrest made this evening at about 9:00 at the 7/11 near the corner of Park and Roosevelt in the Jewel strip mall.

About a dozen plain clothes officers (a number of them arriving in a heavily tinted mini-van) swarmed and arrested a man in his twenties outside a car parked just in front of the 7/11. The vast majority of the officers had no identifiable markings or insignia outside of the generic "Police" lettering on their clothes and were easily distinguished from the handful of plain clothes Dupage County officers who appeared to arrive later to transport the suspect. The officers who appeared to be Federal also had members carrying and displaying small sub-machine guns.

A number of people in the 7/11 reported that the federal officers asked for, and received, the cell phones of all the witnesses and employees in the 7/11 - they said that the officers stated that they wanted to make sure that no unauthorized cell video had been taken.

The suspect was initially held cuffed and sitting on the ground with his shirt pulled over his eyes as a blindfold. GE police arrived after the suspect was transported and held positions on the west side of Jewel.

what does this last part mean? did the GEPD show up AFTER the arrest and departure of the suspect? and what does "held positions on the west side of Jewel" mean? what does it mean to hold position? (i don't watch CSI, 24 or Law and Order. i have a pretty good recollection of Dragnet, though) did they hold positions while inside their patrol cars? on foot w/ guns drawn?

Isn't that a White Hen? Get your convenience stores straight, man!

Sounds bizarre....can't wait to hear more.

Sorry, it was late for me. Smile I'm usually in bed by the time I wrote that.

I arrived at the 7/11 (which was a White Hen last week Smile, gotta keep up with the changing times Amy) just as they'd cuffed him and before they sat him down and blindfolded him. He was sitting on the curb in front of the entrance by the time I'd parked and walked in the store. (Initially I drove right in to the scene and was going to park in the open spot between their undercover minivan and the suspects car, my first brief and split second impression was that it was a fender bender due to another unmarked police vehicle that was parked at an angle to and tightly blocking the suspects car in, they actually looked to be touching) I was leaving the store as the DCP took him away - that's when I got a very good look at him as he was just sitting in the back seat looking out at me.

There were never any sirens or lights of any kind, the arrest was quick and clean with obvious massive overwhelming force. The suspects car was not the center of any particular attention, nor were they trying to question or even speak to him, it was him they wanted. After I pulled away I noticed one GE squad car being joined by another parked back in the shadows just on the other (west) side of the building, if there were any east I was unaware. Other then a dozen men in black upper body armor carrying machine guns and some serious and very large caliber handguns there was no, as I said, flashing lights or sirens. It was all done rather quickly and with the least bit of commotion or attention. Very clean, professional.

Amy - 7-11 bought all of the area White Hens and is changing over - "rebranding" - from White Hen signage to 7-11.

That sounds like a lot of excitement. I wonder if we'll hear more . . . .

Wow - didn't know about the 7-11 taking over White Hen. I like the White Hen logo better...it's less...bright. Smile

Wow! What an event. Clam's probably right, we probably won't hear anything. Unless it becomes a federal case thing and then, once the trial starts, it will hit the papers. Of course, if it's someone they would take the Gitmo, we'll never hear about it. Eek

This place seems to be a hotbed of activity. Now is it a White Hen or a 7-11? This story from the DH calls it a White Hen.

link to DH story set forth below

Police are searching for two people who robbed a Glen Ellyn convenience store early this morning, officials said.

At 3:45 a.m., a man and woman entered the White Hen Pantry at 6 S. Park Blvd. and announced they're going to rob the shop, Glen Ellyn Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer said.

The man implied he had a gun but never displayed one, Holmer said.

After the employee gave the man an envelope filled with cash, the robbers fled northbound on Park Boulevard, officials said.

No injuries were reported, and the offenders weren't located after the area was checked, Holmer said.

The male robber is described as being in his 50s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and was wearing a black jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Glen Ellyn police at (630) 469-1187.

Is the man in his 50's white, black, hispanic, asian...or could they not tell? Man in his 50's is a pretty darned vague description!

I appear to be in my 50's. But I was asleep.

And I've never understood the economics of armed robbery. Seriously, a White Hen...what the hell could possibly be in the register? $156? BTW, if that was for some reason how much was actually in the register...purely a very lucky guess.

People are idiots.

So the robbery was at nearly 4:00 in the morning. How is the arrest at 9:00 p.m. related?

I think these are two different things as the dates are different. The newspaper one was the 27th.
