FYI:
Male subject 'grabs' teen jogger near Main and St. Charles Road by Bonnie MacKay Lombard police are investigating an incident of battery and possible abduction which occurred last week near downtown Lombard, where a 16-year-old Lombard girl was "grabbed" by a male motorist. According to Lombard police Detective Lt. Tom Wirsing, police were called to the area of Main Street and St. Charles Road on Wednesday, July 11, shortly after noon. The lieutenant said a 16-year-old female had been jogging in the area of Main Street and St. Charles Road, when she noticed that someone in a van may have been following her "for a block or two." Continuing her jog, the teen encountered the van parked and "ran past the van," Wirsing said. "She then heard footsteps behind her and felt her arm being pulled," the detective outlined, adding that the young woman "elbowed him and was able to run away." Lombard detectives and patrol officers saturated the area, but were unable to locate the subject. He was described as a white male, about 30, about 6 feet tall, with a thin build. He was very tan, clean shaven, and had darker hair. He was wearing all blue. Investigators canvassed the area, checking with residents to see if anyone had witnessed the event, or seen the subject in the area. Wirsing said the subject may have been driving a white Chevy Astro van. Police reports show the van was described as an older work van, with no windows or racks. According to Wirsing, the composite sketch and information on the incident have been dispatched to law enforcement jurisdictions in surrounding counties. The detective said a similar incident was reported in Glen Ellyn. Other departments have contacted Lombard investigators based on the description and detectives are following up on those leads, Wirsing said. "The police department is taking it seriously because we don't know what the guy's intentions were," Wirsing explained. The detective is hopeful that someone with information will contact Lombard police with further details. Lombard police also investigated a similar incident on Sunday, June 10, when police were called to the area of Norbury and Taylor at about 11:14 a.m. Police reports show that a complainant told police he/she had witnessed a male subject holding onto a female teen. The report further shows that the witness told police a white mini-van pulled up and the male subject pulled the teen, who was yelling, into the vehicle. Wirsing said police were unable to locate the teen and that the department did not receive any missing person reports. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lombard police at 873-4400. |

WTF? Any reason why we wouldn't have heard this from our own POLICE DEPARTMENT? Just when I wanted to kiss and make up...I get slapped in the face. Delete this if you must for the sake of the community, the retailers and realtors, etc., but if there is a potential abductor loose in the area...in a frickin' VAN, no less...why do I have to hear about it from the LOMBARD police? I realize it is my prurient interests coming out again...but this is the kind of **** we need to be aware of. Perhaps we are not getting the full story...or the Lombard police are full of ****. I so agree here. I want the police to alert the community regarding crime. Why is nothing ever in the news? I love this board for just this type of information.
