Hi, Ted! Thank you for the board and I have a couple of q's. I posted a link and you edited it. Thank you....it looks like after looking at the help section, I need to do a [ URL ] in order to achieve that. Is that correct? I'm not sure how you changed the forbes.com link to imbed the forbes URL? Please advise.

Next question: Is there a way to search for topics in a forum? For instance, if I went to Adobo Grill to dine, and I wanted to comment on it, is there a way to search and find it or do I have to click thru all 6 pages of the Shopping, Restaurants, Retail forum to see if I find "Adobo"?

Thanks again

Olleh, Nylle Nelg!

1) URL edit...

If you simply type in a URL address, the software automagically converts it to a link of the same name. Unfortunately, long URLs do not word-wrap, so users with smaller screens are forced to scroll left-and-right in order to read the message.

So I generally go in and edit the “Title” portion of the code to something shorter, but leave the actual “URL” portion untouched.

The proper way to include a web link, however, is to click in the little “URL” tab at the top of a text entry box. That opens a little window with a “URL” box for the full web address (starting with “http,” etc. — you can just paste it in) — and a “Title” box (for a descriptive word or phrase like, “CNN Story“ or “New Puppy Photographs” or whatever. Click “OK” and you’re done.

You’ll now see a jumble of geeky code in the text entry box, but it will appear on the finished GEBB web page as only your Title, with the actual web address hidden “behind” it.

Long visible Titles are fine, because they will word-wrap.

2) Searching for topics...

To find messages containing a particular word or phrase, click the “Find” tab near the top of any GEBB page. Enter your Keyword Search word or phrase in the box that opens, click Go, and a Google-like list will appear.

You have a checkbox option of searching the entire BB or only the forum you’re in at the moment.

But wait! There’s more! Clicking “Advanced Search” offers many additional options, such as “Search within Subjects and Messages” (or) “Search Subjects Only.”

3) More features...

If you want to be a real GEBB junkie, use the “Notify” tab to have new posts emailed to you from whatever forums and/or threads you select.

4) More toys...

When in doubt, read the “Help” pages under the “Tools” tab. There are lots of way kewl bells and whistles few users know about.

Enjoy! —Ted E.

Ted,

When I try to post to my forum, it says I don't have any permissions in that area. Can you turn them on for me?

Thanks,

Dan

Well, that was interesting... I have now found and corrected a “forum Permissions” page I didn't know existed.

I blame it on cosmic rays.

Anyway... all fixed! (I hope.) Sorry! —Ted E.
