White or grey ankle socks are OK with sandals. That's my finding - just ask the Europeans!

The Europeans also stink from not taking showers.....I wouldn't take any queues from the Euros....

Ugh - Love sandals - - hate seeing most people's nasty toes. I never thought I'd support the socks/sandals combo, but every year it looks better and better!! Roll Eyes

Gemom2-I agree, I don't like seeing my own toes, much less others. Let's be honest most people have gnarly looking feet. I like the Keen type sandles, they tend to cover unsightly toes.

The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention.... A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well-intentioned words.

Not true IMJ. My evidence:

1. Had an AuPair for one year. She was from Germany and took showers everyday.

2. Travelled extensively in Europe in 2006. People were clean and tidy. The only place I noticed BO was in Italy and it was majorly warm/hot while we were there.

3. If you read much, you'll notice that the French seem to like to have lots of sex and I'm thinking, if they stunk too badly, that wouldn't happen.

Smile

I love my Keen's too. The most comfortable shoes/sandals ever.

Long live socks with sandals!! Big Grin

1.I NEVER wear sandals EVER EVER EVER (I cried when my Mom made me wear them as a kid). Although I do wear flip flops and I’m not sure at 43 I should be wearing those either.

2.Europeans are the same group that wear “man capris”

3.I lived in Europe… When you live with um for a while, you don’t notice the smell

4. This guy lives in Europe, what fashion style is this?

Isn't he wearing one of those toilet-paper cozies my grandma had on the back of her toilet??? Not stylish in any country! Smile

Sorry Amy. We lived in Germany for 2 yrs. and yes they smell. A German shower is using body cologne not water. They are also against using deodorant. I had Germans tell me that Americans bathe too often and that you should only wash your hair once a week. How pleasant! I'm glad your AuPair was clean but it is not the norm.

My experience with my european customers wasn't their lack of bathing, but the complete lack of cleaning their outerwear. Coats and sweaters....awful. The ripe smell lingers for decades.

Hey Amy...Maybe you know someone who could give you an educated guess about why the U.S. has higher rates of allergies and asthma. I've heard that it may have something to do with a lack of good bacteria in a culture that is perhaps too obsessed with cleanliness. Children who grow up around a little bit of good dirt (say farmers' kids) have much lower rates. It's a relatively new phenomenon to shower daily. I'd guess that's why we're now seeing such increases.

So, to everybody piling on our European cousins, our way's not necessarily better...just different.

I don't get an image from moonwalk's post or perplexed's response to it, but I think I'll consider myself lucky, if it induces an EWW!

Try right clicking on the ? - that's what my mac shows - and then open in a new window. FWIW - I actually did exclaim, "EWW!"

Our way just looks better - and likely smells better, too!! Wink

That is not just different, it's interesting. Wonder if the Israeli government will catch on to this and try to curtail it by shooting people who spray paint things.
