August 2006 marks the Tenth Anniversary of the Glen Ellyn Web Site -- aka www.Glen-Ellyn.com (although it had a different URL for its first few months).

Little remains from its earliest days, but the Wayback Machine began archiving it in early '97.

Today, it ranks as the web's 1,017,309th most popular site. Not exactly Google, Amazon or Yahoo... but hey, there are billions of pages out there!

The site now gets "hit" over 20,000 time a week. Thanks, everybody!

Congratulations and heartfelt thanks for putting up with the characters on the boards!

So, subtracting Clamato's hits, it gets approximately 500 hits per week.

Ted, I know you've expressed disappointment in the past about what the BB has become. But don't you feel a little proud of providing such a thriving forum and information depot for GE-ites? We've seen in the past couple weeks the effect discussions on this BB can have on our government institutions (a.k.a. D41) and how we can alert/inform the "mass" media to doings worthy of attention and further investigation. Without this site, I for one would be ill-informed and very likely to take a "they must know what they're doing" attitude.

Thanks, Ted.

And don't be too disappointed in the childishness and inane babble that infects the BB. We can't be Point/Counterpoint all the time. If there was no fun involved once in a while, the bitching and moaning would get tiresome after a while.

Happy Anniversary

Childishness and inane babble sells in the Midwest.

Congrats on 10 great years. I have been here for all 10 and the web site just keeps getting better. I have enjoyed reading the archives and recalling events, etc. I was disappointed in not being able to find the famous (or infamous) goose thread as it was so fun.

OK, now you have my curiosity up. For those of us not around for the goose thread, what was it about in a nutshell?

A few years ago, a college student named PJ, ignored his mother’s warning to clean up his room or else. True to her word she threw out his junk, including his prized plastic ducks during the annual clean sweep weekend. These ducks were left over from PJ's entry into the previous year’s duck contest, which was held during the Sidewalk Sale. PJ, being desperate to find his beloved pair of ducks, appealed to the GEBB to help him recover them. This was back in the days of no registration being necessary to post on GEBB, so the posters went wild. There were threats from the Goosenapper. Everyone got involved in this tale and it became one of the longest more prolific threads in GEBB history. The bottom line is PJ never found his geese. Some of us became addicted to GEBB from that moment on. Ted finally had to nuke the thread. What happened to PJ????

Ted, Tony, Mrs. Arten, etc. can you fill in any blanks in the information?

I will admit here and now publically.... Although I did NOT take the plastic geese... I was the one posting as "GooseNapper". The pictures I posted during the (all in good fun, obviously) ransom demands were of plastic geese Mom still had stored in their outbuilding.

My favorite was the polaroid of one of the geese in an old dog cage I had.
