I would love some authentic mexican food in town.

Santa Fe does not count.

There was something about the owner of Tipi Thai putting a Mexican restaurant. I'l defer clarification to my esteemed and well connected associate Clam.

I really want a good sushi place...with Chicken Teriyaki for those who want to be at a sushi place without eating the sushi. Smile

My first experience was very good. The staff was quite attentive. When I couldn't decide on a beer, she offered to bring me samples. Because it was so busy we sat in the middle section. Every time one of the wait staff went by, they stopped and asked if we needed anything. The owner asked our opinion of the placement of lights. He was genuinely interested. My only complaint was that our appetizer arrived with our meals.

I was there last week with Yoss and Amy. The first Beefeater I had ordered, I specifically instructed the server not to add a single drop of vermouth. Well, they added vermouth. I could hear Roger yelling from down the street. Other than this isolated incident, it was great friendly service. BTW, Yoss and Amy make good barroom buddies.

When I was there, they had blue cheese olives and they were so delicious, that it caused me to order three more Beefeaters.

No way are they closed....and I'd be hard pressed to think the owner would sell. Never has there been such a goldmine. Owner is kind of a dick, though...but has mastered the formula of Harbor Country dining...or is it diniing?

Well I have been mined by them a few times, and each time didn't really care for the food. But then there isn't much competition within a couple miles except the deli micro-foodstore one door north of it. Or maybe that's what she meant was closed?

Now, six miles north there are some real good eats to be had, but are certainly not within walking distance of the Inn (or any B&B's along the roads behind it).

We've stayed at three different places right around there and somehow always stop in at least once at The Roadhouse.

Hubby and I went to Tap House tonight, to watch the Cubs choke big time - sniff, sniff! We really enjoyed it. (The restaurant, not the Cubs' playing.) Perfect martinis and the Appetizer menu was so unusual and enticing, we ordered only from that. We loved the Crab and Zucchini lollipops, the crispy pork rolls, and the boneless chicken wings. We'll definitely go back; we thought the food was a real improvement over the Firkin.

Although, I was a little sad to notice that on a Saturday night, with a bunch of TV's playing the Cubs' last game of the season, the place wasn't packed. I hope business picks up, because it really seems like a keeper. We'll be back, for sure.

Red Arrow Roadhouse An undeniably crappy website for such a great restaurant.

Grilled Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos
Pineapple-soy marinated mahi, wrapped in gordita shells with lettuce, pico de gallo & chipotle cream…Spanish rice & chips’ n salsa $14.99

Why the hell would I drive to Michigan for fish tacos, when I can get them at any number of places in the chicago area...

On Saturday, Mrs Yoss and I gave Vittorio's a try for the first time-good food, great service. Since the bar there allows smoking, we went to the Tap House for a few cocktails. It was around 7:00 p.m. and pretty crowded, especially the bar. One reason we couldn't sit in the bar area was that there were three kids, ages around 6-10 playing their Gameboys sitting AT the bar. Several people have informed me that since they were under 21, this is illegal. The owners of the Tap House might want to get their people up to speed on this fact.

I understand that people need to wait for tables, but having kids sitting at the bar is bad on an economic level as well. I drink martini's at $7.50 a piece, I'm guessing the kids were drinking softdrinks at $1.50 a piece. So we get seated in the back dining room (we were clear we were not eating)next to a table with a screaming kid. I also agree with Clam's description of this dining area as like someone's basement-spot on my friend. We finished our drinks and decided to go to Figo. Good call-we had great drinks and much better ambiance.

That place can only benefit from turning it into a shotgun-style space. That fireplace is a real detriment to that room. I believe that's why places fail in there...nobody...and I mean nobody in their right mind...wants to eat in that back room. I can think of one room that is worse in Glen Ellyn and that is the back room at Santa Fe. I will never eat back there again.

Not so, Clam. I much prefer the back room to the middle room. If I'm with kids, I prefer the back room. If I'm with adults, I'd rank the front higher.

I couldn't agree more. The back rooms of those 2 places are downright depressing. Don't care for the middle room at THG either though - right in the middle of traffic and too near the crapper. Barring a structural reason that renders it impossible, they need to knock down the walls in THG that chop it up into 3 rooms. One big plus is they are replacing the red velvet upholstery on the seating. Looking forward to seeing what they put on the bare walls. I like when the restaurants let local artists sell/display their art, ala Cab's (and way back when at Sweetwater).

GoDowntown! was going to talk to the owners about this very thing, it came up at the last meeting. GE has a lot of very good photographers, I think it would be a great idea.

Good use of the emoticon, by the way. I know how much it pains you to make the effort.
