I was walking out of the U.S. Bank branch on Main Street this morning when I bumped into an old and civically connected friend. This young man relayed what could only be a comically untrue bon mot to me...or is it?
I'll just throw it out there. Did the EDC recruit two cafes without each of them having knowledge of the other? And did the owners of these cafes find out about each other? And is one of the owners...perhaps both...giving serious thought about pulling the plug on her project because of the unknown competition that is now known?
So...could this possibly be true? The young man is a very trustworthy source not known for imbellishing stories. I only throw this out there because I think you should know. Stay tuned I suppose.
Hi! I'm the owner of Honey, here to nip that rumor. Your source isn't completely wrong, I didn't know of the other cafe. The other cafe is D'Agostino's market and cafe listed in a recent EDC newsletter. I have met with that owner and it turns out we have very different concepts and approaches. We will make good neighbors with each other and I truly hope we both bring good things for Glen Ellyn.
BTW, much progress is being made and swiftly. It is hard to imagine the work that goes on to open a restaurant from electrical to plumbing (we even have to put in a new water line) and so much more. We are working as quickly as possible to get it done right. We have been doing tastings on our menu and I will say, our chef is phenomenal! We are very excited and we aren't backing out!
Thank you for the clarification. It really must be a pain in the butt, not to mention pricey, to convert a clothing store into a restaurant. I wish you success and look forward to your opening.
BTW, this post wins me $10 as I bet the idiot that said there was trouble in Mayberry that he was wrong. $10 that I'll be spending at Honey.
I too am looking forward to the opening of Honey. Good luck with all the prep work - hope it goes smoothly and has a great opening!!

Send an e-mail to be on mailing list. Maybe they will send out coupons! <hint>
I'm looking forward to this option in downtown as well. Is the second cafe the one that will be in the health food store on Pennsylvania (old Antiques on the Avenue space)?
On another note, went to Vitorio's for the first time this past Saturday. We were pleasantly surprised by the service and the food. The bartender made me a mean dirty Grey Goose martini (sans ice chips) and all was good with the World. We will be back. Anyone remember when this was called The Lemon Tree restaurant?
Glad to see that Honey is on it's way and the owner is active. If I were in marketing, and i was looking for a way to engage an engaged group of people like these forum members, I'd suggest content like below rather than coupons; I can't stand when my clients' talk about subsidizing customers (we're all supposed to be rich anyway).
For me, Honey is a fresh concept and i'm ready to welcome your opening. Let us know about what we should look forward to, when you'll open, what we absolutely have to try on the menu, and if there will be signature drinks.
There's a book out there call communities dominate brands that discusses marketing in a web 2.0 world (smarty pants marketing talk for user-generated media channels like this forum) In my opinion, you've got a group of likely-influencers here who are salivating at your restaurant's opening.
Hope your food and approach reflect the "brand" voice I've seen already.

Hands down, the dude who tends bar there is one of the best I've seen. Can't recall his name (i wonder why) He knows how to make a good drink (i.e. chills the glass before pouring a martini) and you can't get a better sidecar outside the city. He's got some sweet ink too.
Hmmm. maybe the chamber of commerce could sponsor a best GE bartender / best waiter/waitress. I'd participate on that. A promotion like that might encourage me to go out more often during the promotion term.
If you served me when you worked at Tiffany's, I was probably in a highchair!
LOVED Tiffany's...we had gym right before lunch my senior year and we would occasionally ask Mr. Nordmeyer if we could skip so we could have a long lunch and go to Tiffany's for a cheeseburger...<slurp>
