I know there was a recent discussion that involved Aldi, but I can't find it . . .

Has anyone bought any "Crofton" appliances from Aldi? Aldi is going to be selling a steam mop for $39.99 this week and I've always wanted one, but don't want to pay $100. Are they at least decent products?

I recall the thread but think we discussed food products only.

I have an Aldi-bought Crofton digital meat thermometer that works like a champ.

I recently bought a steam mop. Make sure you buy a brand that you can easily get replacement pads for. I went with a more expensive one because there were replacement pads available on the shelves. The cheaper ones didn't.

It was a thread that I can't recall what it started with....but somehow got on grocery shopping....and then, of course, Aldi.

I don't own a steam mop....and I don't think I own any Crofton products....though I could be wrong. I don't usually pay attention to brand names unless the products go bad. SO, if I have owned any crofton products they must be working properly for a decent amount of time Smile

Well, I got the OK from my mom, too - she's owned a Crofton crock pot/slow cooker for several years that she bought at Aldi with no complaints.

I think I'll stop by on Wednesday and pick one up.

So, I know you are all waiting with baited breath. . .

I bought the mop this morning. It appears to do the job - my bathroom floor is very clean. I cleaned it first with the steam cleaner and then cleaned it the regular way too see if there was any dirt left (there wasn't).

The negatives (based upon the Shark infomercial that's I've watched before) is that the water tank is not huge. I have hardwood over most of my first floor (inc. kitchen) and I imagine I would definitely have to refill if I did the hardwood, the cord is not really long and will have to be plugged into a couple of different outlets if I was going to cover a larger area, and lastly, it took about 5 minutes for the bathroom floor to dry - not as long as the regular way, but longer than the Shark says it will take.

All in all - I'm satisfied for $40. They had 3 more at the GE Aldi.

Thanks for the update (and yes, I want a steam broom too!) - could you tell if replacement pads are easy to get? Thanks!

Lol at Shore and Buggy....I commiserate with BOTH of you! :P

Depending on the response of the replacement pads, I may need to get one too! My kitchen and bathroom are the only two places in my apartment that have tile and I'll tell ya', my knees are NONE too happy about cleaning day!

HA! I bought them all. For a reasonable mark-up I will sell- leave $ in plain brown wrapper under the newspaper bin at Danbys if you want your precious steam mops. Wink

Actually I was at Aldi on Sun pm and noted the Crofton cordless hot water pot. I like tea and that could be the ticket.

Replacement pads can be ordered from a place in Elk Grove Village via a form on the last page of the instruction booklet. 2 pads for $12.00. Oddly, you have to send a money order - no personal checks accepted Confused

I suppose replacement pads for the Shark or something (anything readily available at Bed Bath & Beyond, etc.) would fit? I worry about places that don't even take pay pal. Wink

How often do you have to replace the pads? Do you use a new pad each time you clean? This seems really expensive...

I live in a 550 square apartement with all hardwood and tile and have been using the swiffer wet get. While I love the wet jet, with a dog that pees out of anger and all that hardwood, it never feels clean!

Would this be a worthwhile investment?

I don't know how often you have to replace the pads - you can machine wash them, so if you are just picking up everyday dirt, I wouldn't think you would have to replace them at for years.

It definitely made my hardwood seem VERY clean. I could feel the difference of no residue when I walked in bare feet (for a day - I have kids and pets and nothing stays clean).

For $40 it's nice.
