As a self proclaimed Pizza Snob, Barones couldn't hold a candle to my Grandparents Don and Angies. I have a terrible habit of comparing not only pizzas but any Italian food. My Grandma's spaghetti sauce blows theirs out the water. The only time the sauce wasn't good was when my late great Uncle Peter didn't drain the Spaghetti well. Then it was alittle watery. He would certainly get a dressing down from the Grandparents. One highlight we did run a family friendly environment even with the drunks in the Jewell room. The kids were usually hanging out in the upper dinning room by the Juke Box. I should know I was one of them. Me and my sisters kept them in tow.

Even I, a morbidly obese gentleman, would have a tough time ordering anything named a sausage and bacon skillet. Just sounds so.....dangerous.

Don & Angies was torn down to build the Firestone Auto Center on the south side Roosevelt, across from Trader Joe's.

I can't drive past that Fire Stone without craving the restaurant. Alas the family didn't want to take over for Grandpa and Grandma and unfortunately I was too young and immature to handle such responsibility. Grandpa did make a pretty penny on the deal. He paid off his house. Grandma lives pretty comfortable.

Was it on a Saturday afternoon? Sometime in the spring late 1970s? I do remember a shower there, they didn't happen all that often as I remember. I know I had many a birthday party there. Those happened alittle more often.

Lack of puctuation, especially for a writer, really kills the mood of a post.

You should know better.

speaking of vindictive, let's talk off-line about your posts on the NWB site suggesting a slight pride in your eldest being tossed from a lacrosse game. i would have sworn an impostor was posting using your name.

btw, i THINK the posts were on the NWB site. maybe they were here -- i can't remember. just thought i'd clarify.

It was the early 70's. Don't remember the day (I've slept since then) but it was probably a Sunday.

For all concerned, Big Banjo may of had live music and sing alongs, (been there done that) but our pizza was much better and the birthday parties were lively. You just may of caught grandpa yelling at the kitchen crew in Sicilian. After all his nick name was Little Ceasar. No relation to the pizza chain of present. More he was short and reminded people of Edward G Robinson.

Does anyone like the pizza from Micheal's on Roosevelt? Personally I have found it to be the best around.
And to throw out something from my childhood, I always enjoyed going to Shakeys Pizza.....can't tell you if the pizza was great or not - but even when pizza is bad, it's still good - but root beer, pizza and the banjo playing was something that made a Saturday night a lot of fun for a kid.

Proud moment, indeed. That kid had it coming to him.
