Went by the former Firkin's and saw a sign on the door that stating the site will be the home of the Tap House Grill. There is one in St. Charles, I'm attaching their menu. Looks promising.
The menu does look tasty and my main concern with that back room was the ventilation system leaking (dripping) water onto the diner below it. The wallpaper was peeling off of it and sagging from all the moisture. What are your issues with the back room, Clam?
Also, if the owners/managers read this, I REALLY hope they will cook the Calamari and any other shellfish/mollusk type things in separate oil from the fries. I never realized how many places don't use separate oil until I had to start asking for a newly discovered food allergy in the family. It's really frustrating for a normal (OK, pretty normal) 11 year-old boy to not get to have fries with his meal because he's allergic to the other stuff that might get cooked in the same oil! So far, we haven't had any problems but his sensitivity could increase and cause a problem...I don't want to jab an epi-pen in him. Anyway, the Firkin was good about letting him have a tasty substitute - usually garlic bread - so he wouldn't be too bummed out.
Can't wait for this new place and Honey to open!

Amy, I can taste that in the fries in a second...one word YUCK. I am looking forward to these new places too. In fact have to scoot and pick up my first pizza from Arvati's.

Join me in praying for a back room remedy.
Agree,it just seemed so confined back there. I'd love to see the whole place have a more open flow, but don't think that's possible with the stairwell adjacent to the bar area. I will pray regardless.
If you look at the decor photo's for the St.Charles location, they have a very contemporary look, I hope the GE location will emulate that.
Be nice if the new owner had a BB night right before the opening, most of us posters could provide valuble feedback to help fine tune things.
Gee it is funny that the comment was made about the look of the place:

The St Charles location for the Tap House is the old BEEF O BRADYS restaurant!
Let us hope that coincidence between Beefs being open here and closing and then also in St Chas, then they have a Tap House open there followed by us is not an omen.
I heard that Tom was starting a new restaurant out in the west suburbs, could this be it?

I think all restaurants will be smoke free soon - a-la the new state law. (I know smokers are kind of pissed but I'm thrilled!)
