Went there the other day to buy some short ribs. I was dissapointed. The butcher was a very nice guy, but when paying gourmet prices, I expect gourmet treatment. After I got home, I realized nobody trimmed my meat and after paying $25, got mostly fat. Also their selection is very limited. Maybe its because they just started, I don't know. I'll stick to Mike's Meat Market in Villa Park and McChesneys. I Love Jerry at McChesneys. When it comes to customer service, Jerry goes above and beyond the call of duty.

I only went there once, to buy veal chops (which I pan fried in a lovely butter/sage seasoning, and Phhhhttt!! to all you people who hate people who eat baby cow...it was WONDERFUL!) - but I wasn't terribly impressed. Very pricey, very lackluster in the selection, but it was the only place nearby where I could purchase said veal chops. (Two of them, about $20.00 for both.)

If I had the time I'd check out the place in Wheaton. But I can't say I'd go there for anything I could get at McChesney's. (They don't sell much veal, unfortunately.)

What's the name of it and where is it located? I may be willing to try it.

Wheaton Meat Market is on the west side of Main Street Wheaton, south of the tracks, north of Roosevelt. A very good store.

Thanks. I may try the place. Last night had pot roast from McChesneys. Man, was that good. Followed Jerry's directions to a tee and BAM! Melted in my mouth.

So where does everyone get their produce from? I hate Jewel! Besides the parking and the narrow inside aisles, their produce SUCKS! On one occassion, I needed bok choy and the stuff they had out was soft and rubbery. I asked the produce clerk if he had any more in the back. His response was "sorry dude, we've had bad luck with our shipments lately." Another time I went to buy cilantro, I picked up a bunch and underneath it was all rotted and mushy. Again I asked the clerk if he had anymore in back, so he brought out a box of the stuff, which was the same. In both instances, after I informed the clerks that their produce was bad, they left it sitting out on the shelf. I will never go to Jewel again!

Dominick's has been the best, but where else can one go? Am I missing anything?

Springbrook Market on Geneva and President. Very nice produce at great prices. Their deli meats and meat market prices are unbelievable. I go there once a week for lunch meats, cheese and meat and I am always amazed at how much money I save.

Whole Foods is in Danada. Get ready though, there is a reason why Fanette and I call it "Whole Paycheck."

I love going to Caputo's on Lake Street. It is about a half mile west of Glen Ellyn Road. The produce is good and reasonably priced, the deli is awesome and the people watching is even better.

And my bet, there isn't one thing you would ever possibly need to cook that isn't in that store.

Frankie's Yorktown Deli is also great for lunch meats and cheese...
You have to try their sausage... Just put it in tin foil add green peppers and onion throw it on the grill

I will second Frankie's.

Ruydah recommended Frankie' a couple of months ago and I've been hooked ever since.

While you are waiting for your order, try the Cappuccino. And...the cannolis...ymmm.

Word up on that! Used to live right around the corner from there. Their Italian Subs are second to none. I also like their red clam sauce. At times, I found some of their staff to be kinda rude though. Maybe it's just me.

I often buy produce when I am at Mike's. It is excellent, but there isn't a large supply. Also Mike's chicken pot pie is to die for!

I think Dominick's produce section is better - and bigger - than Jewel's, for what it's worth. That's where I buy most of mine - I would go to Whole Foods but as has been said, it's way too darn expensive. But it is quite lovely - every time I walk through their produce section I think that maybe, just maybe, I could become a vegetarian.

If McChesney only had some decent produce, I think I could buy most everything I need there, but it just doesn't. So I end up going to Dominick's.

I've always wondered what Frankie's Deli was like - I drive past it enough, but I've never gone in. Now I'll have to give it a try.

Although it's on the small side, Trader Joe's produce is pretty good and reasonably priced (compared to Whole Foods) and they offer organic options as well. Their regular price on bananas are hard to beat.
