Bitterboy, I told you before that I would get involved. I think the issue is very important and I really don't blame PADS - I blame our police. Nonetheless, I am certain that if PADS does have more accountability here than I think they do, they would come to the table and see if there were something they could do. It is a good organization doing some fairly thankless work.
Gus knows my e-mail and Ohma and Mrs. Speechlady know my phone number too. "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. Yoss,
It's a date. When it get's closer to the 28th, send me an email letting me know the time you plan on being there. I imagine it's going to be crowded. Do you still have my email address? GEmom, When you have email ready, let me know and I will send you my contact info. Amy, Thank you. I don't think it's a good idea to create a group which is entirely one sided. I welcome you with open arms. WN and 58, You still interested? Let me know. "You shouldn't soil your Sunday pants, like those other foolish ants." |

Someone may have already mentioned this, but sounds like many on this board would be interested in this seminar:
"The Citizens for Glen Ellyn Preservation Fifth Annual Preservation Seminar and Historic House Walk is Saturday. A "How to Revitalize Downtown Glen Ellyn" seminar led by Nick Kalogeresis kicks things off at 10 a.m. at Ben Franklin School, 350 Bryant Ave., Glen Ellyn. The tour is 12:30 to 5 p.m. Cost is $35 ($25 for members), while the seminar is $5. Tickets can be purchased at www.glenellynpreservation.org." |

BB,
Thought you were at Gus' party back in June...anyway, I might be able to stop by the new Tap House Grill on the 28th. If I know a timeframe, I can find Yoss. Let me know if that works. Haven't been on the other site in a while...busy.... "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but we are talking about downtown.
Ebay has a bonanza of old postcards up. None of which I'm selling or buying, but worth looking at. Here' one Here's another This message has been edited. Last edited by: Ted E., |

i love your POV above. very inclusive and intriguing. count me in, bb. clam and gus have my email info. not to toss a monkey wrench at the plan, but is the taproom the best location? will/can everyone be heard? will there be enough room? (btw, that wasn't a shot at clam's head size) |

I was at Gus' party. He knows where I live and I know where he lives, but that's about it. Were you there? We can make initial contact at The Tap Room, but I have a feeling it will be crowded and noisy. We will eventually need a more quiet place. I will also send you a PM and you can check it at your leisure.
TA, there is/was a whole thread dedicated to Gus' party. There are even pictures posted compliments of 58. I agree that The Tap Room is probably not the best place to have a meeting, but I'll use any excuse to have a cocktail. Ear Ringer and Truth Seeker, didn't you express some interest a while back? At some point there will need to be PADS and/or village involvement in your plan. The only village involvement I see at this point is Chief Norton reiterating that he feels ANY thoughts and plans regarding changing PADS' gameplan in Glen Ellyn as perhaps being perilously close to a hate crime. Unfortunately, I am not kidding. Or at least my interpretation of statements he made lead me to believe that.
Meeting at Tap House? Watch out for a guy wearing a wire and an overcoat. |

Clam - I'm pretty sure we spoke yesterday. Your head is not that big - that's the only thing that left me room for doubt it was you.

Then please don't. This is a serious and important subject that merits staying on track.
Your new discussion is also interesting, and merits its own thread in "Everything Else." - Actually, it was on track. The point being that even wonderful architectural buildings like those pictured eventually become too old for their usefulness. I'm all for the preservation of buildings but sometimes amputations are needed to save the life of the patient. |

Right outside your house. I was visiting your neighbor around noon.

But to get back on track - I plan to call the village offices - or visit - this week and ask them about the loitering/vagrant issues we have. I'm sorry if I'm too delicate, but I would prefer to not observe personal grooming to the point of clothing removal and changes in our parks. I'm interested in what is and what isn't enforced and why.

Oh, yes. I recall that chance encounter. Had I known that such a lovely woman was going to be gracing our bumpy little street, I would not have worn that Stray Dog t-shirt that makes me appear 35 pounds overweight. I would have worn something else that only makes me look the 30 pounds overweight that I am. I suppose it is time for some sort of organized response to what appears to be non-action by those in charge. Be warned that this may not make us the most popular people in town. I, for one, could not care less as I stopped climbing the social ladder years ago...after I made it to the top. |

GEmom,
Clam is right, the police department is electing not to enforce village ordinances dealing with vagrancy and loitering. I am not sure why. We will get no sympathy from them. Going in solo is useless. It is extremely important that we orchestrate our effort, thus the reason for forming a group. Although some of us disagree on certain issues regarding the homeless, the one thing I think most all of us agree on is it's a problem. This is our common ground and this is why our group will work regardless of other differences of opinion. If we handle this together, I truly feel we will make a difference. I'll be getting in touch with all of you shortly. "You shouldn't soil your Sunday pants, like those other foolish ants." |
