Al and Ginger Haffar are closing their store on Feb. 29. It is easily the least attractive space on the street next to the Banyan Tree Mall. Perhaps a $5000 grant from the EDC could help it out a bit.

What store is that? I don't know stores simply by the owners' names, unfortunately.

Oh - thanks. Can't say I ever went into either Villa Bianca store, so I guess I'm the one to blame. But I assumed it was only special order high end interior design stuf - at least, that's what the first store looked like through the window - which ain't my cup of tea.

Is that Mama Sue's place still open? Or did he close that along with Javba Juice? Haven't seen that place open in for-freakin'-ever.

Hard to tell, that place has always had sporadic hours. That would be a prime location for a sandwich/ hot dog place.

That place would be a good starting point for knocking that block down westward.

Can't build on that patio area. There's a reason. Something that should have been done years and years ago never got done.

Hi, I have been reading the posts for a while. You all seem to have some good ideas on what you would like to see in the CBD.

The problem is how do we get these types of business to open here?

Floyd do you really think the rents are too high downtown?

The average space downtown goes for around $20.00/sq ft. (some include heat and taxes.)

Up on Roosevelt road the rents are up around $35.00/sq ft. on a triple net.

I believe Firemouth and Blue Echos are onto something.

How about moving some of the village owned commuter lots out a few blocks to increase foot traffic? ( Kinda like when you go to the mall and have to drive past almost every store to get out? ) Then make the central lots available to customers? Shoveling the walks might help too!

Just a thought

Move the lots to where, though? We're landlocked here. You'd be talking about moving them to residential streets, which can't happen. While I think many people agree we don't have enough parking, moving the existing parking elsewhere can't be a solution.

Although I agree about the shoveling the walks thing. On a recent Sunday morning after a snowfall Saturday night, when all the churches were letting out and Starbucks and Einstein were jam packed with customers, my husband and I noticed that none of the sidewalks were shoveled. Which is a big concern for people coming out of said establishments, hot beverages in their hands.

Villa Bianca is not next to Banyan Tree Mall...it is across the street in the old Toy & Card space.

Smarty pants. I can see how that may have been confusing, but you knew what I meant. Admit it.

What reason? Too many bodies buried under the patio bricks??

Same reason that Spicely Park remains a park. And remember the discussion/contoversy surrounding what lie under or near the Wark Clock? Hint: as long as anyone has lived in this burb, does anyone remember an EPA cleanup of those properties?

Plenty of spots in town where a gas station used to be! Smile
