See, what I like about Bangkok, besides “you can drink your fill of all the booze you bring yourself, for free” - is that they bring out a ‘special or specials’ of the day appetizers and they’re on the house. Or, they use to be. Anyway, I've seen this quite a few times and really appreciated it. We always end up ordering more of the special treat!

And you'd better make reservations...or you aren't eating there.

The people on this board would trash it if it did! funny stuff. |

Not if it was good and properly served.
But...if it were shoddily and indiferently done, you're probably right.* *DISCLAIMER: I have never been to THG so I cannot claim to know what the dining experience is like. Also, I do not believe there is one person in this town that would like to see any restaurant fail. Perhaps just the opposite. My guess is that many criticisms are thinly veiled wishes for better service and food experiences. |

I think your disclaimer is well intentioned, but I don't think most people on this board really believe that. As a lurker on this for a while, it seems the majority of the posters on this and the other site revel in schadenfreude. |

Thai talk aside, do you really feel that we revel in other's misfortune?
Really??? |

And I think you would be spot on with that assessment. Speaking for myself, I want choices when it comes to dining and shopping, so successful entrepreneurs are something I welcome to the GEBD. If I were running a business, I would be scouring the web for feedback like you find on this BB. IMO-Service is the one thing that can make or break a business. Nordstrom's is not cheap, but yet they do well because of the high level of service they provide. I would want to know if my staff are indifferent to the customer or if my food was not prepared correctly. Ahhhh, my husband's favorite expression/philosophy! (Mind you, I'm not quite as inclined to view things that way.) "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith. " -Bertrand Russell V. Delong |

I seriously doubt this statement! “Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”—Dr. Seuss |

Working in the ER gets you there. From Wikipedia: Usually, it is stated that Schadenfreude has no direct English equivalent. For example, Harper Collins German-English Dictionary translates schadenfreude as "malicious glee or gloating." However, an apparent English equivalent is epicaricacy, derived from the Greek word ἐπιχαιρεκακία, epichaerecacia....which gives its etymology as a compound of epi (upon), chara (joy), and kakon (evil). A more common English equivalent than 'epicaricacy' might be the expression 'Roman holiday', which means pleasure derived from watching someone else's suffering, and is derived from the delight of Roman citizens' at the gladiatorial spectacles in the Colosseum. Another phrase with a meaning similar to Schadenfreude is "morose delectation" ("delectatio morosa" in Latin), meaning "the habit of dwelling with enjoyment on evil thoughts".[2] The medieval church taught morose delectation is a sin.[3][4] French writer Pierre Klossowski (1905-2001) maintained that the appeal of sadism is morose delectation.[5][6] So, Clam is really an epicurean who deals in epicaricacy?
