Oh, dear. Isn't there already a fancy stationary place, next to the Book Store? Or at least, there was; I don't know if it's still there. But then, there was the one across the street from the Book Store, too, in the old Hallmark space.

I'm sorry, I wish her well, but golly, this isn't the kind of new business we need. But at least her rent won't be too exhorbitant, if she's sharing a place with Paisley.

She'll do just fine. She has had a following for quite some time. The fact that she is sharing space is a great idea. A win/win for her and the upstairs tenant.

My thought is that she feels she can raise her business to the next level relatively inexpensively. Yes, a lot of these businesses thrive in a home-based setting...the balloon store sells just enough thru its retail outlet to cover the rent and justify staying there (would do just fine out of a basement or garage)...but in the long run it pays to have the exposure. And really....Heartstrings...was probably paying around $5k+ per month in rent. You know how many $3 cards you need to sell to cover that nut? Short answer...a lot.

A card/stationary store is one of the most requested type of stores for our downtown.

I am one of those believers that are thrilled to have a store like this downtown. There are tons of residents that are looking to purchase a card while downtown or order some type of announcement card/invitation.

Wow. I am so not the typical GE shopper. Schmid's has cards, you know. I've never found myself needing anything they can't handle.

But then again, I've never bought anything in a Hallmark store in my life, either. Guess I'm just not a card person.

Yeah, I know. I'm afraid of that, too. Schmid's has really been my favorite little shop in GE. When I AM in the mood to buy cute little things like candles and stuff for my home - cards and notecards, too - Schmid's is where I go. Love the staff, love the selection, love the fudge, and most importantly, love the unpretentious prices. But ever since the pharmacy closed, it certainly appears to have struggled.

I have to agree with Scribbler, I shop downtown and do not see the need for a store like that but hope that it does well! I too like Schmid's but as Clam said, it probably is just a matter of time.
