Is there a dirtier, more cluttered, and less customer focused than the K Mart on Finley and Roosevelt? I went on the torture routine that is school shopping and was disgusted by this place. Sears Holdings stock would go up on the news of this store's closing. "A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices." William James

I totally agree...I've felt like I needed a shower after my rare visits there. My mother loves their Martha Stewart stuff and wants to drag me there whenever she visits. This is clearly an abandoned Kmart...some out on the east coast in particular are actually quite nice. The one my mom frequents recently installed a wireless cafe where presumably bored husbands can hang out while their wives peruse the goods.

I agree. I can name at least 5 big name chain stores on that stretch of Roosevelt Road that equal the dreariness and -- quite honestly -- the filth of that KMart. I'm not sure how these stores stay in business. I assume it's low prices -- low, low, low -- and that the drabness, dreariness, and filth are a necessary part of the deal.

Let's see...worked at Kmart, wears Miami University apparel and has garage sales.....yep definitely a Sox fan. What part of "no" don't you understand?

Indeed there are worse places. Wal Mart--any wal-mart that has opened to the public. Had the same back to school shopping experience. The relevant aisles look like a trailer park after a tornado. We couldn't find two of the required supplies at the other locations we stopped.

Wal-Mart ain't that bad. Get there early on Sunday morning. Cheaper than hell...and the general population is still in bed. Yes...you can go to Target where it is cleaner and the cashiers are usually attractive white girls...but it's further away and more expensive. For those of us that don't do a lot of international traveling, going to Wal-Mart is the closest thing to shopping in a local market...without the haggling.

Take this how you will: I've heard Wal Mart is the number one purchaser of Chinese products....

Unfortunately, try and live without anything made in China and see how long you last. Wal Mart is still my choice for paper goods and household cleaning products.

I would hazard a guess that Wal Mart is the number one purchaser of USA products too. And Tawian, and Hong Kong, and Mexico, and India, and Bangladesh, etc. etc.

Well, that may be true! And I know I can't avoid everything made in China but with all the recalls lately, I have to admit, I'm looking a little more closely....

Atlantic Monthly article for those who love to read. You'll have to look pretty hard for "made in the usa" on most manufactured products now. That's not going to change; we've already got an immigration problem to deal with the scarcity of Americans who want to do that sort of work.

we've all got our tolerance levels. For those who are even more adventurous, there's even better deals, with more cheap oversees junk at DealZ on Geneva/schmale. Closer too for those on the North end. they also have coconut milk with pulp for $1. yum
