Ummm, that's what some of the jewelers do here. You don't need to go to the city for that. What does that have to do with it? Also, go to a goldsmith artist if you really want to go nuts.

Ummm, that's exactly right. Less people involved, less chances to **** up....and less money paid to the crafter out of your wallet/pocketbook. That's kind of what that has to do with that, yo.

Here's the deal. Why go to a place like one of those jewelry huts in downtown G.E. when you can go right to the dude doing the work? How often does one buy a custom piece? Is it that much effort to get to Madison and Wells to have the guy who is doing the work know what you want done? No offense to the jewelers in downtown GE...they sell nice trinkets...but the last time we let Joe Costello's people make a new setting for Parker's engagement ring was the last time anyone in GE touches anything of ours that's worth money. Finished product looked like a train trestle in Colorado.

Piece of advice. Befriend a jeweler who uses or knows Israel Levy and head to the city. Tell him "Jim sent me." Wink

Larc Jewelers does their own work. Guy is standing right there, the owner! He is a goldsmith (I believe that is the correct term). Plus there are other (I call them artists when it comes down to custom work) artists through out this area that are incredibly talented. Sometimes they advertise, sometimes it's word of mouth, sometimes you find them at a large art festival, ie. Port Clinton. There is a world outside of Chicago.

Now that's just a lie, lupe. Or you're trying to make us laugh. Can't figure out which. Confused

And while we are at it, why drive to Highland Park for an arts festival when we have our very own? Anyone who knows the fine arts knows that the GE festival kicks a$$ all over Port Clinton. Big Grin

I bet if the camera backed up a tad bit, it may improve the piece.

Just came across this thread and felt the need to add my 2 cents...Riviera does not seem to be 100% honest..or possibly clueless. I brought my engagement ring in to get sized, had lost a little weight and it was loose. The lady at the counter said my diamond was going to fall out and told me I needed about $250 in repairs...I felt uncomfortable leaving the ring as the only thing I ever used the shop for in the past was batteries on watches...I took the ring to Costello for another opinion...they said no risk to losing the diamond-they said the ring was solid..but said it could use a buffing and did it for free! That was maybe 2 yrs ago...ring is still in 1 piece! (I did have Costello size the ring) Makes you wonder!
