Well, I have to admit I have been very wrong about this place. First, I have to admit that I have never stepped foot into it, not since it changed names. I mean - Chicks 'n Salsa? Ugh. Two less appetizing combinations I cannot imagine. Chicken. And salsa. Really? Um, not for me.
So, even after hearing some good things, I never stepped foot inside the establishment despite driving past it at least once a day. Purely because of the unappetizing name, and knowing little else about it.
But I recently discovered the miracle that is the fish taco, having thrown caution to the wind and ordered one at Adobo Grill in Yorktown (an excellent restaurant, btw). Tonight, Proud Hubby out of town, I decided not to cook and wondered, "Is there a good fish taco place somewhere near by?" I Googled "fish taco Glen Ellyn" and lo and behold - Chicks 'n' Salsa came up, highly recommended.
So I went. And - I am converted. I will be back tomorrow, probably. So many good things on the menu - and yes, fish tacos to die for.
There's a lesson here somewhere. Perhaps it's about misleading and unappetizing restaurant names. Perhaps it's about stubborn and myopic restaurant patrons. Perhaps, it's just about fish.
About a year or two ago, this very GE restaurant was named in the Chicago Tribune has having the best fish tacos in the Chicago area, as I recall. I think they mentioned the whole chicken meal package with glee as well.

I love the C&S fish tacos. I love to wash them down with margaritas. I love to eat three when I should have stopped at two.
That said, Fan has a valid point. Every time I visit I think they go out of their way to screw up my order. Give me the wrong sides, wrong count of items, etc. Now I run my own "Army of One" QA crew at the counter to avoid disappointment. However, it is annoying, and I've cut down my visits accordingly.

The owner is one of the hardest working entrepreuners evah. She cares deeply about the quality of the ingredients used and the healthy end products. She has said that "order accuracy" is the number one reason people stop eating at restaurants, so I am sure the news above would upset her and she would make it right - Cindy Deegan iirc.
I like Chicks and Salsa, too. All I've ever gotten is the chicken though. It's delicious and seems fairly healthy, but I've been tricked before on things like that (damn you Chipotle chicken!).
I've never had a side mix up and I go there often enough (including when it was Aca Pollo) that it probably should have happened by now.

I started going to chicks and salsa last year when I didn't have a kitchen. It has remained our favorite take out spots. We order from there every of weeks. Nachos Supremo with Chicken. YUM!! The fish tacos are good... not the best... but good. I'm sorry to hear some people have had orders messed up. They have never screwed up our order. I'd recommend everyone to give it a try. And a second chance.
If anyone if looking for the best fish taco, it's in Geneva, at Bien Trucha.
