Ok, Here's the challenge: As I've just recently moved to GE, I have no idea of where to have folks stay when they come to visit. We've got a family of 2 adults/2 kids and then my parents. The family is who I'm concerned about. They want enough there for the kids to enable to kids to be entertained/distracted, and they want access to good and convenient dining when not at our place for the slop I'm serving. For perspective: When we were living in Oak Park last year, these folks were in a suite at the Peninsula Downtown. Neither of us expects that, but it can steer thinking. I told them that staying downtown again would be insane. But, maybe over the holiday it wont be so bad? Please let me know what's out here, and any recommendations or experiences you've had (Good or bad)
Well I definitely wouldn't call it upscale, but the Mayan Adventure water park hotel in Elmhurst is relatively close, has tons of dining options nearby, and has the waterpark all day passes to entertain children. Plus the bar turns into somewhat of a nightclub at night on the weekends.

How about checking out the Hilton or Wyndam in Lisle? They have a pool and you are close to a lot of good restaurants and activities in Naperville. The Hyatt is nice, but the Hilton might be a little more kid friendly. A little more upscale would be the Westin in Lombard. All of these places would require a car.

....and I hear that Glen Prairie restaurant is good
IMJ, I didn't say anything about the people who stay there....just saying that when I took my kids we had a blast.

Honestly, I'm half asleep and meant to say that the restaurant does....it's sort of a bar/nightclub deal. Hey, if you're already at the hotel and looking to dance and drink without having to worry about driving, it's NOT a bad option. Not saying it's the best option, but it's AN option.

So, that's that. Either rent the house on Davis Terrace or stay at the Crowne Plaza. Otherwise this thread will become nothing more than people suggesting one bleak suburban hotel after another . . . like the Hilton in Lisle. And if they are used to the Four Seasons, best guess is a water park Mayan-themed hotel in Elmhurst, IL probably won't cut it. You may as well just get out the Yellow Pages.
