Anyone know what the thinking was and what the progress is of the strip mall built north or Walgreens on Main Street? Is it in foreclosure?

Adjacent to Walgreens or the empty one a few blocks north of the not-so-great western trail?

They finally put the glass in around the end of October. Otherwise it's been pretty dead.

I wonder if they were building that with the hopes that Five Corners would become something other than what it has been for the past decade.

BTW, WTF is going on with that gas station? I thought it was scheduled to be leveled over the summer... last summer. I was under the impression that it was going to be either a little version of Planter's Palette...or a landscape design place. That intersection continues to look like @ss.

Agreed. But I don't believe it will be a gas station.

FWIW, I'd rather have the gas station back at the corner of Park and Crescent than the condo that is there.

I would think that there would be very expensive environmental issues with building on that Five-Corners spot. I am also concerned that the Five Corners Florist building is going to collapse into the intersection at any time. A few freeze/thaw cycles and a stiff wind should do the trick.

If I ain't mistaken, that gas station already went through the remediation process and should be A-OK to level.

I would love to have the individual(s) responsible for designing/approving the traffic flow at the Park/Roosevelt Shell step foward and take credit.

No one could have possibly anticipated that having a single primary entrance/exit on Park, just a couple of cars south of Roosevelt, would cause any problems at all. Nosirree!

What is your favorite traffic move at the Shell?

Mine is when someone W-bound on Roosevelt is waiting to turn L onto S-bound Park. When the light turns yellow, they make their turn, and immediately stop in the thru lane because they want to turn into the Shell. (They couldn't turn directly into the station off of Roosevelt because it is not permitted, even tho such turns are permitted with no problem at other similar stations - such as at 53 and Army Trail.) Once they are on Park they can't make the turn, tho, because folks N-bound on Park are blocking them waiting for their ever-so-brief light.

Since the guy who turned off of Roosevelt is blocking S-bound traffic on Park, only a couple of S-bound cars are able to clear the intersection.

I go down to the new BP. My hubby thinks I'm crazy but that intersection is horrible any time of day.

Why do you care about Glendale Heights Mr. Glen Ellyn? As I've always said about politics, the electorate, at the end of the day, only cares about itself, its family and its pocketbook. Road Ranger has cheap cheap gas that allows me to pump without risking my life and limb. As such, although in Villa Park, the Road Ranger gets my business.

Sorry Glen Ellyn....but if you want my gas money....get better and more convenient gas stations.

How much do you save buying your gas there?

Every time I drive by the place, it's the same price as the shizzle in GE.

Worst car wash ever...at that Shell station. Don't subject your car to it.

Not sure. Never really look at gas prices. However, I do know that it is always the station that is featured on the news as having the lowest prices. Truth be told, I really like it for its easy of entry and exit.

Please help me here, JRPotts. It’s not okay to fill our landfills with biodegradable materials because our grandchildren will be worse off, but helping lessen said grand kiddies' tax burden by shopping locally and their air quality by driving further for an "easier" gas station is acceptable?Confused

Does Road Ranger have TVs like Shell? Does it? Huh?

4MP:

As you know, the Road Ranger is directly in the path between my home and my office. As such, no additional fuel is expended in my quest for the Ranger. In fact, due to the efficient set-up of the Ranger and inefficient set-up of the Shell, I would argue that filling up my Sequoia at the Ranger is the environmentally sensitive thing to do.

As far as leaves go.

quote:
2. Landfilling

Although landfilling is currently a primary disposal method for municipal solid waste in New Jersey, according to the New Jersey Statewide Mandatory Source Separation and Recycling Act (NJSA 13:1E-99.11 et seq.), landfilling is no longer an alternative for managing leaves.

There are numerous reasons for banning leaves from landfills. The siting of new landfills has become extremely difficult, and landfill capacity has decreased sharply. Placing leaves in landfills uses up this limited capacity for a relatively innocuous material, rather than saving it for the more obnoxious fraction of the municipal solid waste stream. As the number of remaining landfills declines, the hauling time and distance increase for many municipalities. Likewise, the waiting time for trucks to dump at some landfills is longer. Landfills also exact a high price in terms of increased maintenance costs for the trucks which ride on them - tires, transmissions, fuel tanks, hydraulic lines, and other components receive hard wear.

Ironically, when leaves were placed in landfills their biodegradability, which makes them suitable for composting, added to the gas, leachate, and settling problems which landfills experience. Thus landfilling of leaves is not only expensive but also environmentally unsound.
