I walked into it (today) from the east side of Crescent, and saw no sign of anything Sidewalk Sale until I hit Main Street, and then said to myself "ugh!"

If they're going to block off a street, for heaven's sake make it worthwhile to block it off in the first place. As it was, even if the street was open, there wouldn't have been a safety concerns of shoppers being run over by traffic as there were hardly any shoppers.

Village.... get a clue! Put in some moon jumpers for the kids, have a band playing, and get some food vendors up there to try to make it a worthwhile event. Art fair like booths. Firetruck display. Something else interesting. As it is, there was no reason for anyone to walk the sidewalks to view dusty merchandise that was clogging the merchants back rooms for the last 5 years. I'd guess 50% of the merchants themselves don't even care enough anymore to set up a display.

Wheaton. That's where (concurrently running) a real Sidewalk Sale is happening.

It is the Chamber that puts on the Sidewalk Sale each year. This year, they did not have any funds for it, did not have anyone to run it and did not even "think" about it until after Jazz Fest. That's what we get.

I went by yesterday and actually heard 2 employees who were hired help at one store talking about the merchandise they were suppose to be selling. They were commenting on how the prices were too high for the "junk" that was out there. They did not even try to keep their voices down.

There's a sidewalk sale going on?

I had no idea - where did they advertise?

Like GE58 must have, I stopped in and spoke to a few retailers in town and they were livid. One told me of a woman who drove in from the city because she saw an ad for the sale. Holy ****...can you imagine?

Again, this is a COC gig that is apparently beyond their scope. How can you possibly present the village in such a manner....again? Shame on the both of you. It is apparent that running your busy and lucrative decorating and curtain business is sapping all of your time and energy that needs to be put into the COC. Get with the program or step the **** aside. If I could remove the two of you, I would...and I would have a lot of support from the GE retailing community. Put anend to this thing once and for all if you cant do better than my 9 year-old and his 4th grade class.

It's really quite amazing that year after year your fundraiser (AKA TOGE) runs smoothly yet you cannot pull off something as simple as a fricken' sidewalk sale/block party. Of course, you make money off of TOGE so it is in your best interest to do so. Again, other than a monthly Chardonay party for members in the boardroom of some bank, just what do you offer your members?

Oh....I almost forgot...update your website.

Seriously, after all of the complaints and problems associated with last year's SS under Kay's watch, would you notthink that these two @ss hats would have done something...anything...to improve? If you're going to take a paycheck, do the god damned job.

In the 36 years I've been hanging around Glen Ellyn, I must say that was/is the worst half arsed event in the history of the town! If your not going to do it right, don't waste your (or anyone else's) time going through the motions.

I was unable to fly back there this year for the event, but I fondly remember the sidewalk sales of my youth. I eagerly anticipated the offerings from LaValle's toy shop and the GE Card and Gift. They had free hayrides to take people from downtown to the Plaza on Roosevelt where they were also having a sidewalk sale.
One year my mom gave me half of a paper dollar because she thought it was worthless. (She wasn't being mean, she told me it wasn't worth anything.) I went to the DuPage Trust on the corner of Crescent and Main and asked if it was worth anything. They gave me a new dollar and I promptly spent it.

Okay-this post is really cracking me up! Thanks for the laugh! Can you drive through in the evening or is the road closed until Monday? I went a diffrent direction tonight. Also, last year I thought Costello's had some nice stuff. I thought about it and of course, talked myself out of it. Went back the following Thursday, and they actually would have sold to me the item for the price as the sidewalk sale. I thought that was pretty nice. It was a really nice watch! So who knows, maybe I'll walk up there to see what I can see. Does it stop at the tracks or does it go it go to Hillside?

Tonight I took GEM Jr. for his first 2 wheeler ride on the prairie path! What a blast! We wound up in downtown Wheaton. The car show was in full swing, there was live music, food! Everything. Oh yeah, the place was PACKED! PACKED TO THE GILLS! Happy merchants with lines in front of their stores! Hello COC are you listening? Did you ever go to Wheaton? Don't tell me you were directing traffic by the horse trough! Although their downtown is a bit bigger, the have basically the same types of shops we have had. What are they doing that we should be??? HMMMMMM I'm sure TBS will have the answer!

Well I still think having a car show, for starters. Lombard's car show is terrific. I heard that Wheaton is second to none. Elmhurst's is Wow! Been to all of them and will repeat during the summer. I know this has been a discussion before so it's beating a dead horse.

I enjoyed myself. I relaxed and strolled to my already favorites.
Got some fun CDs for 50 cents.
I can take care of my house with Soukup's.
Dancing lights-make me dance.
