Place your guess as to when the icicle above the A Florist Garden, Ltd. on Crescent (next to Starbucks) will fall off.

Will it rip through the awning below?

Should the GE Public Works be proactive in removing this hazard or just state that it is the building owner's responsibility?

At least they put up a few horses and some tape. Not sure why they just don't cut the thing. Seems very dangerous.

And the best part is the horses direct the pedestrian to walk over an ice and snow mound created by the way the sidewalks are shoveled.

Concerning the snow, where should the shop owners put it?

Should they shovel the sidewalk clean into the street and have the plows put it back on the sidewalk?

My son and his friend have done their best to protect the community by attempting to get it down. They knocked off half of it last week. Big Grin

Are we talking about an icicle, or are we talking about the cinder block-sized chunk of ice that is stuck on the awning? I still have memories of the guy in from Wisconsin to visit his daughter in Chicago getting his clock fatally cleaned by a block of ice that fell off the Neiman Marcus building.

If the village was intelligent enough to place a set of horses out there over a week ago, they could very well have permanently alleviated the problem or gotten the owner of the building to do the same. Must we sit around and wait for even the simplest of tasks to be carried out in this town? Let me guess...there are legal issues involved and we are afraid to damage the awning...right? We didn't seem to have a fear of legal action back in October...November...December...or early January. What has late January brought that has changed our minds?

Looked at it this A.M. That should really be addressed. That is freakin' ginormous. Think death and destruction if it lets go at the wrong time.

Are you talking about the same village who, for days allowed a 100lb limb to dangle about 25 ft in the air (in clear vicinity of the playground) at Lake Ellyn? In that situation, all they did was string some tape which, any tot could've easily hopped, skipped or jumped right under. At least they are consistent.

That was hanging there last weekend. It is hard to believe it is still looming up there like our own CBD sword of Damocles!! I would not be walking or parking anywhere near that thing.

The icicles hanging from the eaves at 2 Toots yesterday were looking as if they could impale unsuspecting patrons as well. Eek

I always enjoy a Sword of Damocles reference.
