Is there a seat open on the EDC board?

intersting the EDC is trying to create common store hours among biz owners. good idea.

do any of you old-time GEites remember when the stores used to close on wednesday afternoons? the weekly schedule for ALL stores was something like this: mon-tues-fri-sat all-day hours (typically 9-5, maybe 6 -- then the 6:00 whistle would blow and everyone would go home for dinner). wednesday 9 - ummmm, i want to say 2:00. thursday 9-9. sunday everything was closed. as i recall, this was pretty much the same in most surrounding suburbs.

can you imagine a time when downtown biz was so good that storeowners could keep those hours? obviously this was before the malls. it was a pretty cool time, though.

Before you get the wrong idea, Ted. I am not the slightest bit interested in serving on the EDC board. I think you know that I would have a tough time reporting to the Village President (if that is the case), and I think the entity needs to be brought back to the village in some form or fashion.

I ask because I know of someone that would be exceptional for the spot...and does not have a sandpaper personality like I have.

Who nominates board members and what is the process?

I think the folks at the EDC would not mind you answering this civic minded question.

The EDC is an independent not-for-profit corporation. It was created a dozen years or so ago by the Chamber of Commerce and the Village government, each of which appoints four board members who serve staggered four-year terms.

Board members need not be members of the Chamber or otherwise affiliated with Village government, but they must live in or work within the villahe limits. Those interested in volunteering can ask either or both organizations to be considered for the next opening.

The EDC's independence has been clearly demonstrated in recent years by the number of times Village trustees have rejected or otherwise ignored EDC recommendations and suggestions.

Me? No. My tenure as an EDC board member ended last year.
