RIP? There in the pickwick place plaza. There is a new sign stretched over the Martino's one...with the wind blowing it around it was hard to read. Something about Baked goods and more??

Same owner? what is the story here?

I saw the sign - I think it says Brickhouse Bakery and Grill?

You know, that location just stinks - but if there's a new bakery in town, I'll try it. For years, I've been counting the days until Flour Barrel goes to the great, dusty, perpetually three-quarters empty (except for a handful of dry Italian cookies) bakery counter in the sky.

HONEY has excellent baked goods, however they are rarely fully stocked.

I welcome a new bakery overlord.

I'm talking about a place where, in addition to fine individual pastries, you can buy a dozen cookies for a special occasion, or order a cake, and the selection changes somewhat. (Not Flour Barrel's speciality, of course.) Frankly, whenever I drive by Honey their bakery case looks empty, so I never go in.

Anyway - I will definitely see what the new bakery is about.

I went to Brickhouse Bakery & Cafe today at 10am to see if they were open and what they offer. They do not open until 11:00am each day and their signs in the windows say specialty sandwiches, salads and soups. I did not peak into the windows as it was too cold to get out of the car, so I could not see what kind of setup they have.

The name is "Brickhouse Bakery & Cafe". the place has new owners with previous restaurant experiance and clearly bring higher standards of what a restaurant should be with them to the table. so if your speculating that its the same old Martino's with a just a fresh coat of paint (like i was)...your in for a pleasent surprise! they still offer the old martinos pizza recipie but with real quality ingredients, along with new gourmet pizzas, salads, gourmet pastas, sandwiches, and FRESH bake goods!!! the restaurant itself has been completly redone. its not the old stinky red and green pig-sty you may remember. with new carpet, paint, tables & chairs, and real service. you really feel as though your getting your moneys worth (and more) out of it. in my opinion it is one of glen ellyn's best kept secrets and its definatly worth another look!

Brickhouse Bakery & Cafe

The family ventured into this place for a slice of pizza when I was away on business this week. They left quite impressed with the variety and quality of items on the menu (much more than pizza as noted above) as well as the new decor. Several friends happened into the restaurant while 3MP were there - all with equal rave reviews. The eatery serves beer and wine. Sounds like a nice culinary addition to the GE fold...

We went on Wednesday evening and were very impressed. The food and service were outstanding and the price was extremely low. We had tortilla soup which was wonderful and had a subtle kick to it. The pasta alfredo was soooo delicious. The presentation was quite impressive. Unfortunately we were too full to try any of the tempting desserts. We will return and the next time I will save room for one of red velvet cupcakes. This new cafe, BrickHouse bakery & cafe is a real keeper!!!!!

Clam, you a**kisser you. I told you of the now coveted Basil Martini at Glen Prairie and you did not give me even a second of notice. I slap you with a white glove, my fine sir! Big Grin
