I hope a grocery store stays in the spot. I think that is an important feature to the small village lifestyle.
I'd really miss McChesney if it closed.

Amy: Just drove through that area in Oak Park. Brick pavement on the newly opened stretch. Looks very nice, which is directly opposite of the wasteland that was there as a pedestrian mall. The wooded area of which you speak is called Austin Gardens which, comparatively, would be like asking people in Glen Ellyn to sip their coffee at the Post Office on Pennsylvania.

Pedestrian malls are so 1980's.

I'm an 80's kind of girl!

Besides, like I said, we are NOT Oak Park. Way different setup, market, and clientelle.

Don't mention 'the 80s'! The townies will instantly be attracted to it then (as will Preserve Glen Ellyn)! They don't understand why 1980s retail doesn't work in 2008 - and this will perpetuate the situation!

All this talk of the 1980's and Scratch n Sniff makes me want to go hunt down my old sticker book.

Does anyone remember this one?

Wow, some Google image searching is putting my brain into sensory-memory overload. I loved the carmel apples ones.

All one needs to do is go to Five Corners and sit southbound on Main at the light. At approximately 11 o'clock ahead you will see one of our laughably garish and totally out-of-date Glen Ellyn Style banners right next to the increasing dangerous-looking gas station. As a site finder for businesses, this would be all I'd need to wonder who is or is not is charge. Where the hell is Jim Louthen when you need him?

BTW, who screwed that deal up? Which administration? Matthews or Hase? Rumor has it the village could have bought that property for a pretty good price and rid itself from that long-running eyesore. Accurate or not?

I like the gas station idea as well. If fact BB suggested that it be one that has attendants who would fill up your car. I would gladly pay for that service with this weather. But what does BB know.

BB would take a time machine back to the 1940's if he could. He was just born 50 years too early.

Are the car attendants going to be wearing roller skates? If so, great idea. If not, bad idea.

What can I say? I enjoy and appreciate items of old, e.g. cars, music and when I was younger, women (cougars that is). Nothing like visiting the Living Room in Oak Brook. Giddy Up!
