Be as caty and clicky as you want, make fun of my spelling. The fact remains that these threads run off to pointless ends. If you want to talk tocos do the board a favor and start a thread. Why not keep to the point of the thread title so you dont waste peoples time talking about tocos when their interest is "What will be left downtown" Thousands of posts dont make you meaningful to the subject at hand, your words do.
Other boards tend to self police and keep to the subject at hand. Maybe this would make this site more popular. I would rather see many current threads than on "run on forever" thread

I'm sure they don't take it as gospel, but it may give them a "feeling" about the neighborhood. If your neighbor was constantly screaming and cussing at her kids, would you let yours go over there and play? If the Village of Glen Ellyn can't generate enough revenue in the CBD guess who they will turn to? They may just tax and fee you all the way to Villa Park!

I just couldn't resist. It reminds me of one of my professor's lecture tangents, this one about his favorite bathroom graffiti, which read "I hate vandalism but love hypocrisy".



Actually, Firemouth, I understand your sentiments completely. I used to rarely read posts "beneath the fold" because they became pseudo chat rooms about as interesting as reading a teenager's text messages.

Things have gotten a bit better but I'm sure it can still annoy newbies.

I've taken to the opinion however, that the off-topic banter is a necessary evil to keep the GEMB's "critical mass" together. If all of the guests and lurkers posted more often with more substantive posts, it would pull the average post into an acceptable level of relevance. But for now, the stupidity keeps the core posters logging in.

So I'd encourage you to ignore the OT posts for your sanity, and to keep posting substantive posts for all our sakes.
